Chelsea vs Porto: Predictions

Thomas Tuchel’s side soared to a 2-0 away win in Spain last week to provide the Londoners with a two away goal cushion over the Portuguese side. The in-form Mason Mount provided Chelsea with the opening goal of the night and Ben Chilwell doubled their advantage to provide them with a great opportunity on Tuesday to confirm their spot in the semi-finals.

The Portuguese outfit bounced back from their disappointing defeat on the weekend with a 2-0 win of their own against Tondela. However, they will have to defy the odds to progress to the semi-finals given Chelsea have progressed eight out of the last 10 times they have won the first leg in the Champions League knockout stages.

Chelsea continued from where they left off on Wednesday with a stunning away win at Crystal Palace with the Blues running out comfortable 4-1 victors. Tuchel’s side have shown some stunning home form since he arrived with the only blip on his record being the shock defeat to West Brom earlier this month.

Atletico Madrid were in a similar position to Porto in the last 16, however, Chelsea dealt with them comfortably in the second leg in Seville as the Londoners cruised to a 2-0 win against the usually defensively sound Diego Simeone outfit.

Chelsea vs Porto: Match Stats

There have only been four occasions when a side has progressed from a Champions League knockout stage when they did not score in their home leg. However, Chelsea have kept six clean sheets in their last seven home games so it will certainly be an uphill task for the Portuguese side to earn themselves a spot in the final four.

Olivier Giroud has been in scintillating form in the Champions League for the Blues. The French striker scored a stunning overhead kick in the first-leg against Atletico Madrid. Despite not featuring regularly in the Premier League, Giroud has managed to dig out some form in the European tournament to net six times in his five appearances.
