Plymouth Argyle vs. Lincoln City: Predictions
Pilgrims boss Ryan Lowe will be hoping for a return to winning ways on Saturday for the visit of Lincoln City after his side’s long unbeaten run in the league was halted unceremoniously by the Imps’ fellow automatic promotion rivals Peterborough United by a three-goal margin on Tuesday at Home Park. Only athletic midfield strongman Panutche CamarĂ¡ came out of that encounter with his reputation fully intact, and his manager, who recently signed a contract extension at the Devon outfit, will want to see a strong reaction from his squad. Remaining defensively coherent has been his side’s Achilles’ heel almost all season, and whilst the visitors don’t have anyone who’s been as potent as Luke Jephcott at the tip of their attack, there are plenty of potential threats in red, white, and black in between the lines for Michael Appleton to call upon.
Jorge Grant has been one of the standout performers in the division as a whole this season, and he’ll be looking to supply the likes of Tom Hopper, who is precisely the sort of striker Lowe has struggled to have an answer for during his managerial career to date: a target man who is capable of playing with his back towards or away from goal, and who can keep a weaker centre back at arm’s length. Solving that conundrum on Saturday will go a long way to securing a positive result for Plymouth, and they have their own stars in midfield for the opposition to worry about. If they are to restart their charge up the standings however, they’ll need to take scalps such as Lincoln’s, and that looks beyond them at present with any consistency.
