The 2023 Women’s World Cup got underway on Thursday in Australia/New Zealand and in Group A, tournament debutants the Philippines take on Switzerland, who themselves are only making their second-ever appearance in the quadrennial competition. Quinley Quezada and Sarina Bolden are the nation’s top scorers in Stajcic’s side with 22 goals apiece, while the Philippines are the current AFF Women’s Championship title-holders, winning their first-ever trophy last year. Bolden top scored in that competition with seven goals, so she will be the nation’s main hope in the final third.
