After the group stages, two teams have dropped out of Copa America, with eight advancing through to the quarter-finals. Peru secured their spot in the final eight by finishing second in Group B, winning seven points from their four matches. They did get off to the worst possible start, losing 4-0 to hosts Brazil, but bounced back with a big 2-1 win over Colombia which they followed up by drawing 2-2 with Ecuador having been 2-0 down at half-time. A 1-0 win over Venezuela secured Peru’s spot in the quarter-finals and a second-placed finish, giving them a better draw.
Paraguay’s group stage reads as a rollercoaster with wins and losses, highs and lows, intertwining. It started with a 3-1 win over Bolivia in which they came from behind after conceding early to the team that would eventually finish bottom without a point. Argentina then beat Paraguay, but Eduardo Berizzo’s men bounced back to beat Chile 2-0 and secure their spot in the final eight. A 1-0 defeat to Uruguay in the final game of the group stage did put a dampener on things, however, as Paraguay finished third and now have to deal with a trickier tie.

Peru vs Paraguay: Match Stats
Peru’s matches at Copa America have been exciting for neutrals, with 12 goals scored, and La Blanquirroja scoring five while conceding seven. But four of those goals came against Brazil, and Peru have shown they can beat opposition on a similar level to them.
Andre Carrillo has been Peru’s main man at Copa America, scoring two of their five goals so far. Across the rest of the tournament, only Lionel Messi has managed more strikes than Carrillo, who has also netted in each of his past two appearances.
