Arsenal vs Olympiacos: Predictions

Mikel Arteta’s side put Olympiacos to the sword in the first-leg meeting between the two sides last week with an impressive 3-1 away win which has the Gunners all but through to the last eight of the Europa League. Goals from Martin Ødegaard, Gabriel and Mohamed Elneny secured the win on the night but a 58th-minute goal for the hosts has kept the Greek side in the tie.

Olympiacos got back to winning ways over the weekend with a 3-1 win over Greek side Larissa. Despite conceding late on, Olympiacos cruised to a 3-1 win which they will be looking to replicate in Thursday’s clash in London.

Arsenal earned north London bragging rights on Sunday as they beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 at the Emirates. Arteta’s side dominated the game but were forced to come from behind after a stunning ‘rabona’ from Erik Lamela in the first half. The Gunners prevailed despite a late onslaught from the Lilywhites to close the gap on Spurs to just four points.

However, the win against Spurs came with speculation surrounding star man, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who was taken out of the starting XI due to a ‘disciplinary issue’ with many believing the Gabon international reported late to the Arsenal camp which saw Arteta consequently remove him from the XI.

Arsenal vs Olympiacos: Match Stats

Nicolas Pepe is Arsenal’s joint-top scorer in the Europa League with three goals to his name. The Ivory Coast international began Sunday’s derby game on the bench which could be a sign he is expected to start on Thursday. The winger has also made 20 appearances in the Premier League and netted on five occasions with the Ivorian proving to be most clinical in the Europa League.

The Greek side have shown they are far from solid at the back. Conceding three goals at home to Arsenal came off the back of conceding four goals to PSV over their tie against the Dutch side in the Round of 32. With Arteta’s side bouncing into the game after their win in the North London derby, Olympiacos will have to tighten up at the back if they stand a chance of progressing.
