Turkey odds: To win Euro 2020, how far will they go, top scorer and more

Turkey will be hoping they can defy the odds at Euro 2020 this summer and lift their first-ever major trophy on the international stage.

Turkey have not qualified for any of the last four World Cups, with their last appearance on the international stage coming at Japan 2002 when Senol Günes’ side incredibly finished in third place.

In the 2016 Euros held in France, Turkey were unable to progress to the knockout stages. Grouped with Spain, Croatia and Czech Republic the Crescent-Stars were only able to record one win and didn’t have enough to qualify as one of the best third-placed sides.

Although Turkey are unlikely to be many people’s pick to lift the trophy this summer, you can still find them at long odds if you fancy an outside bet. But just how well can they do?

Turkey Euro 2020 odds

Günes has taken charge of the national side again as he hopes he can replicate his heroics from 19 years ago. With Günes at the helm, you can find Turkey at a huge odds of 100/1 to win their first-ever major international trophy.

Although silverware seems unlikely, there could be potential for Turkey to spring a shock and win their group. Italy are the favourites and are in fine form, but the Crescent-Stars have some star quality in their side and could pose a challenge to the Azzuri in the tournament’s opening game.

Euro 2020 favourites with Bet365

  • England – 5/1
  • France – 5/1
  • Belgium – 6/1
  • Germany – 7/1
  • Portugal – 8/1
  • Spain – 8/1

Turkey will not be on many people’s minds to reach the final and lift the the trophy, however, they will be looking to the likes of Hakan Calhanoglu and Cenk Tosun to lead them out of the group stages — and anything can happen in knockout football. We saw in the last World Cup that giants can be quashed by relative minnows as Spain were knocked out by Russia and Germany fell to South Korea.

Turkey’s potential path to Euro 2020 final

Turkey finished second in their qualifying group for the European Championships, only two points behind current World Cup champions, France. Günes’ side were unbeaten against France in the qualifying stages as they drew 1-1 in Paris and then beat the world champions 2-0 at home.

Turkey have been placed in Group A alongside Italy, the Gareth Bale-led Wales and Switzerland with their games coming in that very order.

Turkey Euro 2020 group stage fixtures

11 June 2021: Turkey vs Italy (8pm)

16 June 2021: Turkey vs Wales (5pm)

20 June 2021: Switzerland vs Turkey (5pm)

If Turkey win Group A

  • If Turkey were to win Group A, this would be their route through to the final.
  • Last 16: The runners-up of Group C (Netherlands, Ukraine, Austria, North Macedonia) in London on 26 June.
  • Quarter-finals: The winner of Last-16 match 4, which is played between the winner of Group B (Belgium favourites) and the Group A/D/E/F third-placed side.
  • Semi-finals: The semi-final would likely be played against the Group F winners (Hungary, Portugal, France, Germany).

If Turkey qualify from Group A

  • If Turkey don’t win Group A, and only qualify as they are 4/6 to do with Sky Bet, it can become a lot more complicated.
  • Last 16: The second-placed Group B side, which could be any of Denmark, Finland, Belgium or Russia in Amsterdam on June 26th.
  • Quarter Finals: The winner of Last-16 match 3, which is played between the winner of Group C (which includes Netherlands, Ukraine, Austria, North Macedonia) and a third-place team from D, E or F.
  • Semi-finals: The winner of that Quarter Final will play the winner of Quarter Final match 4, which could include the winner of Group D or Group E (expected to be England/Croatia and Spain).

If Turkey finish third in their group and do enough to rank among the best third-placed teams, they could play the winner of Group F and then join the path they’d take if they won Group F (talk about over-complicating things!)

Turkey Golden Boot odds

Everton striker Cenk Tosun is expected to be Turkey’s first-choice striker going into the competition after he joined Besiktas on loan until the end of the season in order to get some first-team football ahead of the Euros. The striker is 66/1 with BetVictor to become the first-ever Turkish player to win the Golden Boot at the European Championship.

Euro 2020 Golden Boot favourites with BetVictor

  • Harry Kane – 6/1
  • Kylian Mbappe – 8/1
  • Romelu Lukaku – 9/1
  • Cristiano Ronaldo – 10/1
  • Antoine Griezmann – 16/1

And the most optimistic of Turkey fans could get a double of Turkey winning Euro 2020 AND Cenk Tosun claiming the Golden Boot at 250/1 with BetVictor.
