Premier League predictions for Gameweek 13: Tips, picks & scorelines
We are now a third of the way through the Premier League season and things are starting to get tight at both ends of the pitch.
Just three points separates Chelsea in fifth from Tottenham in first but that could all change as we enter Gameweek 13. The current league leaders travel to reigning champions Liverpool on Wednesday night, while Frank Lampard’s side face a difficult journey to the Midlands as Chelsea lock horns with Wolves.
Man City are uncharacteristically down in ninth but have kept six clean sheets in a row across all competitions and face a struggling West Brom on Tuesday. Elsewhere, misfiring Arsenal take on high-flying Southampton, Leeds battle it out with Newcastle, Leicester host Everton, and Fulham collide with Brighton.
Confident West Ham face an all-London encounter with Crystal Palace, while on Thursday, in a clash of the clarets, Aston Villa welcome Burnley to Birmingham, and finally, Man Utd conclude the midweek action with a journey to basement club Sheffield United. But, how do we think these games will pan out?
Frank Lampard will be desperate to bounce back after suffering defeat to Everton over the weekend and his Chelsea side should have enough to get over the line against a struggling Wolves, whose recent back-four experiment has let ship five goals across the past two games, without producing at the other end of the pitch. The Blues won this fixture last year 5-2, and while we may not see a repeat of that seven-goal thriller at the Molineux, Chelsea will be confident of getting the job done nonetheless. Scoreline prediction: Wolves 1-3 Chelsea
Man City vs West Brom prediction
It does not bode well for West Brom that they have never won a Premier League game at the Etihad in 11 attempts, nor have they ever won a Premier League game on a Tuesday, in 27 attempts. Facing a City side in solid form and eager to get back among the goals after firing a blank last time out, Pep Guardiola’s side could seriously have a field day against a side lying perilously in the drop zone if they are in the mood. Scoreline prediction: Man City 4-0 West Brom
Arsenal vs Southampton prediction
The Gunners are enduring an identity crisis at the minute with the pressure ramped up on Mikel Arteta to the nth degree. The Spaniard has overseen a pitiful start to the campaign, with Arsenal currently languishing in 15th position, with just 13 points from their opening 12 games. Conversely, Southampton have been in red-hot form and travel to London in the top four, and off the back of a thumping 3-0 win against Sheff Utd over the weekend. Scoreline prediction: Arsenal 1-2 Southampton
Leeds vs Newcastle prediction
Despite exciting at times this season Marcelo Bielsa’s side currently find themselves down in 14th, just six points outside the relegation zone. Last time out they were completely dominated by an in-form West Ham, but Bielsa will be desperate for his side to respond and produce a performance to fire them back up the table against Newcastle. Under Steve Bruce this term the Magpies have largely flattered to deceive but they are on a run of back-to-back wins and will take that momentum into Wednesday’s clash at Elland Road. Current form aside, though, Newcastle have won just one of their last 22 Premier League games played on a Wednesday. Scoreline prediction: Leeds 3-1 Newcastle
Leicester vs Everton prediction
The Foxes were fantastic against Brighton over the weekend, with Jamie Vardy and James Maddison combining almost telepathically to take down the Seagulls. Vardy brought up double digits for the campaign and is having another stellar campaign, but Everton are a difficult side to break down under the evergreen Carlo Ancelotti, who masterminded a brilliant win and a clean sheet against free-scoring Chelsea on Saturday. There’s too little in this to split the sides. Scoreline prediction: Leicester 1-1 Everton
Fulham vs Brighton prediction
It has been quite the turnaround from Fulham, who were staring down the barrel a few weeks ago, even in these early stages. A win over Leicester and a commendable point against champions Liverpool across the past three games have rejuvenated the terraces in west London, and Scott Parker will eager to follow up with a result against Brighton in this early six-pointer. A win for Fulham would see them trade places with Brighton, and given their current form, that could well happen. Scoreline prediction: Fulham 2-1 Brighton
Liverpool vs Tottenham prediction
Jose Mourinho has never won away against Jurgen Klopp in five attempts across all competitions (two draws, three losses), while Harry Kane has never been on the winning side at Anfield despite scoring in four separate matches. The Reds may be enduring an injury crisis at the minute, but Klopp knows how to win games at Anfield, with Liverpool currently unbeaten in 65 games at home in the league, which stretches back to May 2017. Scoreline prediction: Liverpool 2-1 Tottenham
West Ham vs Crystal Palace prediction
The Hammers have been breathtaking under David Moyes this season, who has guided the club up to sixth in the table and pulled off some massive results, including against Wolves, Man City, Leicester, Spurs, and more recently, a 2-1 win at Elland Road over Leeds. Palace have a solid record against their fellow Londoners, including a double last season, but West Ham look exceptional at the minute and should get over the line on home soil. Scoreline prediction: West Ham 2-1 Crystal Palace
Aston Villa vs Burnley prediction
Burnley have won just one of their six Premier League meetings with Aston Villa, and while they may be riding the crest of a wave following their recent 1-0 win over Arsenal, a Jack Grealish-inspired Villa went two better in north London, winning 3-0 at the Emirates last month. Dean Smith’s side recently nicked three points in a Midlands derby over Wolves and should give their fellow clarets a reality check on Thursday. Scoreline prediction: Aston Villa 2-0 Burnley
Sheff Utd vs Man Utd prediction
A win for Man Utd will see them become only the fourth side in top-flight history to win 10 away league games in a row, and despite Ole Gunnar Solskjaer experiencing a few issues this season, he should have enough in the tank to get the job done with relative ease. Last season the Blades pulled off a 3-3 draw with Man Utd in South Yorkshire, but they have regressed drastically since that meeting, losing six of their last seven home league games. Scoreline prediction: Sheff Utd 0-3 Man Utd
