Spain and Brazil competing for favourites tag

Spain are the pre-tournament favourites in Tokyo and a quick glance at their squad and recent record in youth competitions will tell you why. La Roja were 2011, 2013 and 2019 winners in the U21 European Championships, 2019 winners in the U19 European Championships and 2017 winners in the U17 European Championship.

With established stars like Marco Asensio, Dani Ceballos and Dani Olmo supplementing some supremely talented youngsters including Euro 2020 breakout star Pedri, Luis de la Fuente has an embarrassment of riches at his disposal in Japan this summer.

But there are plenty of other teams that have as rich a footballing pedigree as Spain, not least not least Brazil, who were gold medalists last time out in 2016 and Argentina, who won the competition in both 2004 and 2008 in Athens and Beijing respectively.

Germany and France will also look to make the most of their talented young stars, with die Mannschaft including experienced midfielders Max Kruse and Maximillian Arnold in their squad and les Bleus hoping the evergreen Andre-Pierre Gignac can lead them to glory.

Who are favourites to win Gold in the Men’s Football at Tokyo 2020?

Not too many bookmakers are offering odds on the outright markets at Tokyo 2020, but SBK are among those that are and they have made Spain their favourite to win Gold Medals in Japan.

A quick glance at their squad and it isn’t hard to see why as even the more experienced players within their squad are young stars teeming with energy and quality. Could we about to see another generation of la Roja talent start reaching their potential?

Beyond Spain, there are plenty of other footballing heavyweights competing in Japan. Brazil are next in the running, despite having to meat Germany in the group stages. Their squad includes a handful of players well-known to Premier League fans including Richarlison of Everton, Douglas Luiz of Aston Villa and Gabriel Martinelli of Arsenal.

Bookmaker’s dark horses for Euro 2020

With Spain and Brazil the two favourites in the bookmakers eyes, the likes of France, Argentina and Germany could be considered dark horses, although all three of those teams will have set their sights on taking home Gold for their countries in the Japanese capital.

France’s squad is perhaps lacking in the depth of quality that their first-team squad possesses, while Germany will be relying on an experienced midfield to carry their youngsters through the tournament. Ezequiel Ponce and Adolfo Gaich are the two creative players to watch out for in the Argentina squad.

Also in the running with the home advantage will be a Japan side who will no doubt have a fervent home crowd backing them in every fixture. The Samurai Blue are skippered by former Southampton defender Maya Yoshida and will be hoping to make it past Mexico and South Africa in the group stages at least.

Other Tokyo 2020 Football Betting Markets

There aren’t too many outright betting markets available on the Men’s Football at this summer’s Olympics, with winner odds available with some bookmakers and other firms offering prices on Group Winners, but little in the way of markets such as Top Goalscorer.

The matches themselves are likely to offer more ample betting opportunities, with more firms pricing up your usual bets such as Match Winner, Both Teams To Score, Over/Under 2.5 goals etc.

One player to look out for in the goalscoring markets will be Brazil’s Matheus Cunha. The Hertha Berlin forward has an incredible record with his nation’s U23 side, racking up no fewer than 18 goals in his 19 appearances for the Selecao.
