Netherlands odds: To win Euro 2020, how far will they go, top scorer and more

The Netherlands will be aiming to burst back onto the scene after their recent struggles on the international stage since finishing third at the 2014 World Cup.

The Oranje failed to qualify for the most recent major tournaments in 2016 and 2018, but with Frank de Boer at the helm and a list of promising, young players there will be some quiet optimism among the Dutch camp.

The Netherlands put their qualifying woes to one side as they finished a comfortable second behind Germany in Group C, losing only once across the whole qualifying campaign.

Although they may not be star-studded in the same way as teams of years gone by, they are still among the favourites to win the tournament. But just how well can they do?

Netherlands Euro 2020 odds

The 1988 European Championship winners come in as eighth-favourites to lift the trophy at 12/1, with current champions Portugal priced at 8/1 with 888sport.

Euro 2020 favourites with 888sport

  • France – 9/2
  • England – 5/1
  • Belgium – 11/2
  • Germany – 7/1
  • Spain – 8/1
  • Portugal – 8/1
  • Italy – 8/1

The Netherlands are not the same threat they were a decade ago, however, they should not be overlooked with a host of talented, young players and more experienced stars such as Memphis Depay and Liverpool’s Gini Wijnaldum. They lost 3-2 to Germany in the first of their qualifiers against Joachim Löw’s men, but emphatically won 4-2 in their away game which made a lot of people sit up and take notice of the Flying Dutchmen.

Netherlands’ potential path to Euro 2020 final

The Netherlands have been drawn into Group C where they will play Austria, Ukraine and North Macedonia for a place in the knockout stages of the tournament.

They kick off their Euro 2020 group stage against Ukraine, before games against Austria and then North Macedonia, with all of their group matches scheduled for Amsterdam.

Netherlands’ Euro 2020 group stage fixtures

13 June 2021: Netherlands vs Ukraine (8pm)

17 June 2021: Netherlands vs Austria (8pm)

21 June 2021: North Macedonia vs Netherlands (5pm)

If the Netherlands win Group C

  • If the Netherlands were to win Group C, at odds of 4/11 with 888sport, this would be their route through to the final.
  • Last 16: The third-placed side Group D/E/F (likely contenders for which are Scotland/Czech Republic, Poland/Slovakia, Portugal/France/Germany) in Budapest on June 27.
  • Quarter-finals: The winner of Last-16 match 1, which is played between the runners-up of Group A (Italy/Turkey/Wales/Switzerland) and the Group B runners-up (Denmark/Finland/Belgium/Russia.)
  • Semi-finals: Likely the winner of Group D (England/Croatia expected) or the winner of Group E (Spain expected).

If the Netherlands qualify from Group C

  • If the Netherlands don’t win Group C  and merely qualify, it could become a lot more complicated.
  • Last 16: The winner of Group A in London, which could be any of Turkey, Italy, Wales, Switzerland on June 26.
  • Quarter Finals: The winner of Last-16 match 4, which is played between the winner of Group B (expected to be Belgium) and the third place in A/D/E/F.
  • Semi-finals: The winner of that Quarter Final will play the winner of Quarter Final Match 1, which is most likely to include the winner of Group F or runners-up of Groups D/E.

If the Netherlands finish third in their group and do enough to rank among the top third-placed teams, they would play the winner of Group F and then join the path they’d take if they won Group F (talk about over-complicating things!)

Netherlands Golden Boot odds

Lyon star Memphis Depay is expected to be the Netherlands’ main man going into the competition with the tricky forward trailing only Kylian Mbappe in the race to be the Ligue 1 top scorer this season. The 27-year-old is 18/1 with 888sport to become the first Dutch player to win the Golden Boot at the European Championships since Patrick Kluivert at Euro 2000.

Euro 2020 Golden Boot favourites with 888sport

  • Harry Kane – 5/1
  • Romelu Lukaku – 13/2
  • Kylian Mbappe – 8/1
  • Cristiano Ronaldo – 9/1
  • Karim Benzema – 16/1
  • Memphis Depay – 16/1
