Coventry vs Brentford Tip
Few players have been as reliable in front of goal as Brentford’s Ivan Toney this season. In his first campaign with the Bees, the striker has racked up no fewer than 24 goals in 30 league outings thus far, four more than any other player in England’s top four divisions, so we can’t back against him in the first goalscorer market against Coventry on Saturday.
First goalscorer pick: Ivan Toney
Southampton vs Chelsea Tip
Timo Werner ended his Premier League goal drought with Chelsea’s second in their 2-0 win over Newcastle United on Monday night. The former RB Leipzig man had gone 15 league games without scoring, but that strike will give him confidence to kick on under new boss Thomas Tuchel and he’ll be keen to make it two from two at St Mary’s on Saturday.
First goalscorer pick: Timo Werner
Burnley vs West Brom Tip
West Brom forward Mbaye Diagne shocked Manchester United by scoring in the second minute of the Premier League meeting between the two sides last Sunday. That was the Senegalese striker’s first goal for his new club, but he had chances to add a second later in the game and he will be a threat to the Burnley defence this weekend too.
First goalscorer pick: Mbaye Diagne
Liverpool vs Everton Tip
Although they returned to form in the Champions League in midweek, Liverpool have looked uncomfortable defensively in the Premier League of late and in Dominic Calvert-Lewin, they come up against one of the division’s strongest strikers this weekend. The Everton forward has scored three times in his last three games to take his seasonal tally to 18 in all competitions.
First goalscorer pick: Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Fulham vs Sheffield United Tip
Can Josh Maja be Fulham’s saviour this season? The Bordeaux loanee marked his return to English football with two goals in his first start for the Cottagers last weekend as they ran out 0-2 winners over Everton at Goodison Park. This home fixture against bottom of the table Sheffield United will be seen as a must-win for Scott Parker and he will no doubt be hoping Maja can inspire his side to another three points.
First goalscorer pick: Josh Maja
West Ham vs Tottenham Tip
It’s rare that West Ham supporters will go into a game versus London rivals Tottenham expecting to pick up three points but they may have every right to this weekend. With Spurs struggling and the Hammers flying, the hosts will look to force the issue here and in Tomas Soucek they have one of the league’s most lethal midfielders in front of goal with eight to his name so far this season.
First goalscorer pick: Tomas Soucek
Aston Villa vs Leicester Tip
Although it wasn’t the first goal of the game, Harvey Barnes rounded off Leicester’s 3-1 win over Liverpool last weekend with a fine finish to take his tally to eight Premier League goals this season. Six of those eight strikes have been the first in a game – will he open the scoring as the Foxes head to Villa Park on Sunday?
First goalscorer pick: Harvey Barnes
Arsenal vs Man City Tip
Although always an important cog within this Manchester City team, Ilkay Gundogan has stepped up to become much more of a goalscoring threat so far this season. The German international reached 11 for the season with yet another brace against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend and the Arsenal defence will have to keep a close eye on him at the Emirates Stadium.
First goalscorer pick: Ilkay Gundogan
Manchester United vs Newcastle Tip
Bruno Fernandes was on the scoresheet once against for Manchester United last weekend, executing an emphatic volley to earn his side a point at West Brom. The attacking midfielder will be out to put Newcastle to the sword this weekend as he looks to find the net for the 20th time in all competitions this term.
First goalscorer pick: Bruno Fernandes
Brighton vs Crystal Palace Tip
Monday night sees two old rivals face off on the South Coast and Brighton supporters will be hoping that Neal Maupay can be the difference between the teams. The Frenchman has seven Premier League goals to his name so far this term and what could be a low-scoring game, one may be enough to earn the three points for the Seagulls against the Eagles.
