France odds: To win Euro 2020, how far will they go, top scorer and more

World champions France will be aiming to continue their dominance of international football as they bid to carry on from where they left off in 2018.

France made their mark at Euro 2016 before falling at the final hurdle, but bounced back to win the World Cup two years later as they beat Croatia 4-2 in the final.

Les Bleus have won the European Championships twice in their history and Hugo Lloris will certainly have his eyes fixed on captaining his national side to back-to-back major honours. However, their odds to win the competition are perhaps longer than expected given the hand they were dealt when Portugal and Germany were drawn alongside them in the tournament’s ‘group of death’.

That bookies place them as joint-favourites with England, but just how well will they do?

France Euro 2020 squad

Didier Deschamps revealed his squad for this summer’s tournament and it instantly caught the attention of football fans worldwide with Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema earning a spot back in the squad. Almost six years on from his last appearance for Les Bleus, the talisman will suit up once again for the current World Cup holders.

France Euro 2020 odds

Some bookmakers might consider France joint-favourites, but their tournament-winning pedigree could well give them the edge over a young England side and does so with 888sport.

Euro 2020 favourites with 888sport

  • France – 9/2
  • England – 5/1
  • Belgium – 11/2
  • Germany – 7/1
  • Spain – 8/1
  • Portugal – 8/1
  • Italy – 8/1

France have an incredible mixture of young and experienced talent in their side, but none more exciting than PSG’s Kylian Mbappe who has broken all sorts of records in recent years. The 22-year-old is accompanied in the French national side by a host of decorated winners at club level who will all be relying on their experiences at the peak of the game to help them follow World Cup success with European glory.

France’s potential path to Euro 2020 final

France were drawn alongside Germany, Portugal and Hungary into Group F, which was swiftly dubbed the ‘group of death’.

France kick off their Euro 2020 group stage against Germany, before games against Hungary and then Portugal. Their matches are scheduled to be played in Munich and Budapest.

France Euro 2020 group stage fixtures

15 June 2021: France vs Germany (8pm)

19 June 2021: Hungary vs France (2pm)

23 June 2021: Portugal vs France (8pm)

If France win Group F

  • If France were to win Group F at odds of 6/4 with 888sport, this would be their route through to the final.
  • Last 16: The third-placed side Group A/B/C (likely contenders for which are Wales, Turkey, Switzerland, Russia, Denmark, Ukraine, Austria) in Budapest on June 28.
  • Quarter-finals: The winner of Last-16 match 5, which is played between the runner-up of Group D (England/Croatia expected) and the Group E runners-up (Sweden/Poland expected).
  • Semi-finals: The winner of the quarter-final will player either the winner of Group A  (Italy favourites), winner of Group B (Belgium favourites), runners-up of Group C (Ukraine or Austria expected) or a third-placed side from Group A/D/E/F.

If France qualify from Group F

  • If France don’t win Group F, and merely qualify, it could become a lot more complicated.
  • Last 16: The winner of Group D, which could be any of England, Croatia, Scotland or Czech Republic in London on June 29.
  • Quarter Finals: The winner of Last-16 match 8, which is played between the winner of Group E (which includes Spain, Sweden, Poland, Slovakia) and the third place in A/B/C/D (likely contenders for which are Wales, Turkey, Switzerland, Russia, Denmark, Ukraine and Austria).
  • Semi-finals: The winner of that Quarter Final will play the winner of Quarter Final Match 3, which will likely be the winner of Group C (expected to be the Netherlands) or runners-up from Group A/B.

If France finishes third in their group and do enough to rank among the top third-placed teams, they would play the winner of Group B and then join the path they’d take if they won Group B (talk about over-complicating things!)

France Golden Boot odds

As expected, PSG star Kylian Mbappe leads the way as their favourite to win the Golden Boot. The 22-year-old is 8/1 with 888sport to make it back-to-back top scorers for France after Antoine Greizmann won the honour back in 2016 for Les Bleus.

Euro 2020 Golden Boot favourites with 888sport

  • Harry Kane – 5/1
  • Romelu Lukaku – 13/2
  • Kylian Mbappe – 8/1
  • Cristiano Ronaldo – 9/1
  • Karim Benzema – 16/1
  • Memphis Depay – 16/1

There is only a small drop to the next favourite among the France squad, which is Karim Benzema, offered at 16/1 with 888sport. There is also Antoine Griezmann to consider at odds of 20/1, five years on from him winning this gong in his home country.
