This will be Morocco’s second World Cup finals appearance. Their return in 2018 ended a four-tournament absence. The Atlas Lions, though, have only escaped the group phase once before. That best performance came in 1986 when José Faria’s side was beaten 1-0 by Germany in the round of sixteen.

Walid Regragui’s current charges boast a number of influential players notably Paris Saint-Germain full-back Achraf Hakimi and Chelsea playmaker Hakim Ziyech, who recently ended a self-imposed international exile. Ziyech is the most prolific player in Morocco’s squad with 18 goals, not far behind is Sevilla marksman Youssef En-Nesyri who has bagged 15 goals across 50 outings. Romain Saïss is not only Morocco’s skipper but their most experienced member of Regragui’s squad with 66 caps won to date.

Last time out Croatia became the latest nation to reach the World Cup finals, but they fell at that final hurdle to France, but Zlatko Dalić’s men come into the Qatar tournament riding a wave of momentum and will be looking to go on another impressive run. It’s also an experienced squad with no fewer than three players with 100 or more international caps. Two of those centurions are Domagoj Vida and Ivan Perišić with talisman Luka Modrić leading the way on 155, which also makes him Croatia’s record-capped player.

Though a deep-lying midfielder Modrić is a scoring threat having netted 23 goals for his country. The aforementioned Perišić, who can be utilised as a wing-back, leads the present Checkered One’s team with 32 goals. Andrej Kramarić will also be a danger up-front with Mateo Kovačić and Marcelo Brozović expected to help Modrić in the middle of the pitch.
