Morocco captured to imagination at the 2022 World Cup after reaching the semi-finals, becoming the first African nation to ever reach the penultimate round of the tournament. Walid Regragui was a late appointment to the national set-up, and he produced an unexpected rise for The Atlas Lions out in Qatar.
The 47-year-old French-born tactician will now be looking to consolidate his nation as a powerhouse on the international scene. This current iteration of Morocco’s talent pool has the feel of a ‘Golden Generation’ with the likes of Achraf Hakimi, Noussair Mazraoui, Sofyan Amrabat and Hakim Ziyech.
That quartet will be looking to test themselves against a traditional heavyweight in Brazil. Now under the guidance of interim boss Ramon Menezes, The Little Canary will travel to Africa with a squad replete with homegrown talent. Nine players from Brazilian clubs make up the bulk of Menezes’ selection.

Morocco vs Brazil match stats
Along with that aforementioned clutch of domestic stars, Menezes has called up a healthy portion of ‘regulars’. Among those are West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta, who is actually the highest scorer in this latest Brazil squad with eight goals. He will be hoping to add to that tally on Saturday night against West Ham team-mate and Morocco centre-back Nayef Aguerd.
Casemiro is also in the squad and captains the nation for this international break. The Manchester United midfielder has made 69 appearances for Brazil, during which time he has accumulated 18 yellow cards. Against a robust midfield consisting of Sofyan Amrabat, he will need to temper his tenacity, or risk getting in trouble with the referee.
