After scoring in 17 of their first 18 home games in the Championship, Middlesbrough have now failed to score in each of their last three games at the Riverside and find themselves four points off the play-off places. Chris Wilder’s side know that three points is a must against a Cardiff side that currently sit 19th in the Championship if they are realistically going to have any chance at promotion.
Middlesbrough were incredibly impressive at home before their recent blip, winning eight straight games and scoring 15 goals as well as keeping four clean sheets in the process.
Cardiff on the other hand have been very hit and miss on the road this season, winning seven and losing 10 of their 21 away games and go into the game losing each of their last three Championship games on the bounce.
The Welsh side do have a good recent record against Boro though , winning three of the last six meeting between the sides and losing just one of the last eight.

Middlesbrough vs Cardiff match stats
Middlesbrough will be without joint top scorer Matt Crooks on Wednesday who misses the game through suspension. The midfielder has scored eight goals in 26 starts for Boro in 2021/22, with seven of his eight league goals coming at the Riverside.
Strikers Folarin Balogun and Duncan Watmore have scored 10 league goals between them this season, with the former failing to find the net at the Riverside.
Defenders Perry Ng, Aden Flint and Mark McGuinness have picked up 25 yellow cards between them in the Championship this season, so if you are looking for a card bet then Cardiff’s backline is definitely the place to target.
