Manchester United vs Southampton: Predictions
Manchester United’s title charge took a knock last week with a shock 2-1 defeat at home to bottom-side Sheffield United which was followed up with a lacklustre 0-0 draw away to Arsenal on Saturday night. The shared points at the Emirates Stadium may not seem too bad, however, the manner of the draw may have worried some United fans with a pretty poor showing from the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
The Saints have struggled in recent weeks since their 1-0 victory over Liverpool at the beginning of the year. back-to-back defeats to Leicester and then Arsenal was followed up by a disappointing 1-0 defeat at home to Aston Villa. Ralph Hassenhuttl will be hoping his sides’ season is not beginning to tail off with European football still in touching distance.
Bruno Fernandes has not scored since New Year’s Day in their 2-1 victory over Aston Villa, but in the reverse fixture back in November the Portuguese playmaker’s goal started the stunning comeback from 2-0 behind which saw United clinch a late 3-2 win.
Tuesday night’s game offers both sides a huge opportunity to indicate which way their season is going to go with both sides suffering from disappointing performances last week. United’s draw against Arsenal drew criticism towards their title ambitions, however, a win on Tuesday will undoubtedly assert their aspiration in the title race as it could take them level on points with leaders Manchester City.

Fernandes (28) currently sits third in players with the most shots on target and will be aiming to end his mini-goal drought.
No team has made more successful tackles than Hassenhuttl’s Saints this season. With 387 tackles the Seasiders will have to put in another shift to hold United at bay on Tuesday. However, it is United’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka who leads the individual player’s tackles table with 60, with Southampton’s Oriol Romeu just behind with 58.
