Manchester United vs PSG: Betting tips, predictions, odds & match preview

Manchester United welcome last season’s Champions League runners-up PSG to Old Trafford in a high-stakes Group H encounter on Wednesday at 8pm.

Manchester United vs PSG: Predictions

Manchester United are just the single point away from confirming their place in this season’s Champions League knockout rounds with a game to spare, but standing in their way on Wednesday night are French powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain, who won on their last visit to Old Trafford.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has overseen back-to-back wins against PSG and must simply avoid defeat to book his side’s ticket in the round-of-16, but Thomas Tuchel has previous in the North West, famously masterminding an emphatic 2-0 win in the 2018/19 round-of-16 first leg, before capitulating in Paris.

His side came unstuck in the reverse fixture on matchday one this term, falling to goals from Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford at the Parc des Princes, but the Parisians have lost just one of their previous seven games on the road in this competition, and that came against RB Leipzig earlier this month.

Old Trafford has been anything but a fortress for Man Utd this term, but Solskjaer’s men have responded in excellent fashion to the shock 2-1 loss in Istanbul, winning each of their last four matches across all competitions, which will give them some much-needed momentum heading into this crunch clash.

Manchester United vs PSG: Match Stats

PSG, for all their inconsistencies in the competition over the years, are a ruthless and devastating outlet going forward. Since the start of 2016/17, they have only failed to score in one of their 39 Champions League games, averaging 2.4 goals per match in that time (95 in total). In fact, the only side to keep a clean sheet against them in that run are Bayern Munich, in last season’s final.

With players like Neymar at the disposal of Tuchel, who has been directly involved in 60 goals across 63 appearances in the Champions League (36 goals, 24 assists) since his debut in 2013, PSG stand a serious chance of pushing Man Utd to the wire and getting another big result in England.

Manchester United vs PSG: Head to Head

20 October 2020 – PSG 1-2 Manchester United – Champions League

06 Mar 2019 – PSG 1-3 Manchester United – Champions League

12 Feb 2019 – Manchester United 0-2 PSG – Champions League

All three encounters between these sides have gone in favour of the away team, but Man Utd will be hoping to buck that trend on Wednesday night. In the round-of-16 first leg clash in 2018/19, PSG cruised to a resounding 2-0 win, with goals coming from Presnel Kimpembe and Kylian Mbappe. Tuchel could do with a similar performance later this week.
