The Red Devils have picked up six consecutive victories across all competitions either side of the World Cup, including beating Burnley in the EFL Cup and Nottingham Forest, Wolves and Bournemouth in the Premier League by a 9-0 aggregate scoreline since the action in Qatar ended.

United have won the FA Cup just once since 2004 but have been steadily improving under Erik Ten Hag, who will be desperate to start bringing silverware back to Old Trafford as soon as possible.

Standing in their way on Friday is an Everton side in another desperate relegation battle, but with an unusual habit of testing some of England’s big guns.

Frank Lampard is fighting for his job following Tuesday’s 4-1 defeat at home to Brighton that leaves his side 16th in the Premier League table, just one point above the relegation zone. However, this season, the Toffees have picked up draws against Liverpool and, most recently, Manchester City, while they went 1-0 up in an eventual 2-1 defeat the last time they faced United.

Man Utd vs Everton match stats

Man Utd have scored the fewest goals of any team in the Premier League’s top nine. However, only Chelsea (18), Man City (16), Arsenal (14) and Newcastle (11) boast a better defensive record throughout the entire league. Their numbers are even skewed slightly by 4-0 and 6-3 defeats to Brentford and Man City, respectively, earlier in the season. However, more recently, they’ve been air-tight, keeping clean sheets in each of their last four matches and in 10 of their 16 since that aforementioned loss to Pep Guardiola’s men.

Everton have simply been unable to string results together this season, winning just one of their last 11 games across all competitions and losing five times. Whether home or away, the Toffees look uninspired in attack and weak at the back. It’s going to take a miracle for Lampard to inspire a shock win at Old Trafford, where Everton haven’t tasted victory since December 2013.
