Gameweek three of the Champions League was an intense one for the teams in Group F and it remains one of the closest groups in the competition this season. At one point Man Utd were bottom but they go into this game in first place, two points clear of second-placed Villarreal thanks to their dramatic 3-2 victory over Atalanta in which they came from two goals down at half-time. Although they did come back, there were still doubts surrounding the future of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made worse by the 5-0 thrashing by Liverpool and some believed a negative result against Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend would bring the end of his time at Old Trafford. Man Utd responded excellently, however, with a 3-0 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and they’ll be looking to build on that in Italy.
Atalanta, meanwhile, have built a three-game unbeaten run since losing to Man Utd in agonising fashion but it’s not one they will brag too much about. After leaving Old Trafford without a point, Atalanta were held at home by Udinese before beating Sampdoria 3-1 on the road. But another 2-2 home draw at the weekend against Lazio continued Atalanta’s poor home record across all competitions which has seen them fail to win any of their past three matches at the Gewiss Stadium since a 1-0 win over Young Boys in their second Champions League group stage match.

Atalanta vs Man Utd: Match Stats
Cristiano Ronaldo will be looking to continue his excellent run in the Champions League this season having scored in each of Man Utd’s first three group stage games. Should he find the net against Atalanta, Ronaldo would be the first Man Utd player to score in four consecutive Champions League games since Ruud van Nistelrooy in April 2003 (when he managed nine in a row). Ronaldo also has a good record away from home in the Champions League, scoring 60 goals in 88 games on the road.
Duvan Zapata has been Atalanta’s home man in the Champions League, being directly involved in three of their four home goals in the competition since the start of last season. He scored a brace against Ajax in last season’s group stage and set up Matteo Pessina’s winner against Young Boys just a few weeks ago.
