Man Utd vs Copenhagen Predictions, betting tips, odds & match preview

Manchester United will expect to progress through to the Europa League semi-finals on Monday night as they take on Copenhagen in Cologne.

Manchester United are looking for their first silverware under the management of Ole Gunnar Solskjær in the Europa League this season and they head into the Quarter Final stage as favourites to lift the trophy in Cologne.

In this truncated version of the competition being played out in Germany, the Red Devils will play one-legged ties after completing their Round of 16 clash with LASK Linz last week and should they progress against Copenhagen on Monday night they will face either Premier League rivals Wolves or the competition’s most successful side in Sevilla in the final four.

But first, they come up against a Copenhagen outfit that have shocked everyone in progressing so far in the competition this year. The Scandinavian sides have struggled in Europe over the last few years, but FCK have beaten the likes of Lugano, Celtic and İstanbul Başakşehir to reach this stage.

In fact, this is the first time that the Danish club have ever reached the final eight stage of any European competition and having failed to win the Superligaen this time around, finishing second behind Midtjylland, it’s fair to say it isn’t their finest side of recent years either.

However, in Ståle Solbakken they have a highly popular manager who is now in his 12th year with the club over two different spells and this game will have a particular interest in Norway as the two managers are former international team-mates for Løvene.

It’s Solskjær who has the superior quality to call upon in his squad for this game and it’s Solskjær who will expect to see his team through to the semi-finals here.

Man Utd vs Copenhagen Predictions

Squawka Stat: Man Utd have kept seven clean sheets in their ten Europa League fixtures so far this season.

Manchester United’s defence has been strong in this competition throughout the campaign. In fact, the likes of Harry Maguire and Sergio Romero have led the Red Devils to no fewer than seven clean sheets in just ten appearances in Europe this season.

FCK have performed brilliantly to reach this stage of the competition, but you have to fear that a lack of firepower will let them down in these latter stages.

After averaging fewer than one goal a game in the group stages, they have failed to score in recent Superligaen fixtures against AGF and Brondby and failed to find the net in the first-leg away from home against Istanbul Basaksehir in the last round despite coming back in the second leg in Denmark to progress in the tie.

Given that there’s clearly a large gulf in quality between these two teams, we expect the United defence to be dominant again here and keep out this inconsistent Copenhagen attack in what should be a relatively comfortable victory.

Squawka Stat: Anthony Martial has scored four times in five Europa League appearances this season.

This has been by far Anthony Martial’s most prolific season of his career so far. The Frenchman has racked up no fewer than 17 Premier League goals, plus one in each of the FA Cup and the EFL Cup and a further four in the Europa League for a total of 23 goals.

Those four goals in the Europa League have come in just five appearances in the competition for the 24 year old, the fourth being the winner in the 2-1 victory in the second-leg against LASK Linz last week after 84 minutes to replace Dan James.

In a tie that will cause United more problems, expect Martial to start and expect his pace and clinical finishing to be too hot to handle for the Copenhagen defence. He’s available at 5/6 to find the net at any time in this one.
