West Brom vs Man City: Predictions

Having suffered an indifferent start to the 2020/21 Premier League campaign, Man City are back where they’ll feel they belong, fighting for the title going into the second half of the season. The Citizens are currently second in the table, just two points behind rivals Man Utd, with a game in hand over the Red Devils.

Although this is not that game in hand, Man City can still move top of the table with a win over West Brom, putting pressure on Man Utd and Leicester (who currently sit third, level on points with Man City) both of whom play a day later. And Man City are in good form going into this game, winning their past 10 matches across all competitions.

West Brom finally got their first win under Sam Allardyce 10 days ago as they beat Wolves 3-2 at Molineux, but the Baggies remain at the heart of the relegation dogfight. Allardyce’s side are currently 19th, seven points from safety at the halfway mark, with just two wins from their opening 19 games.

The win over Wolves was also West Brom’s sole victory in their past 10 games across all competitions, a run that saw them knocked out of the FA Cup by lower-league Blackpool on penalties. They also followed up their win over Wolves with a defeat away to West Ham, halting any momentum they may have gained.

West Brom vs Man City: Match Stats

Man City haven’t been the best scorers away from home in the Premier League, netting just 10 times, but if there is a team to return to form against then it’s West Brom. The Baggies have been generous in defence at the Hawthorns under Allardyce, conceding 12 goals in their three matches since the former England manager took charge.

With Sergio Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne both out, Man City will have to get their goals from across the team, and in Ilkay Gundogan they have a player hitting good form. The German international has scored five goals in the Premier League this season, all of which have come in his past seven appearances, including in consecutive matches going into Tuesday.

West Brom’s 1-1 draw with Man City at the Etihad earlier this season brought an end to a 14-game losing streak in this fixture, but it still doesn’t make for good reading. Man City have won 16 of the 18 games across all competitions since their last defeat to West Brom in September 2010, while the last Premier League loss came in December 2008.
