After a drama-fuelled international break the Premier League is finally back and attention quickly refocuses on the title race, where Liverpool will look to pick up another three points and keep the pressure on current table-toppers Manchester City. But, standing in their way are a Watford side desperate for a result.
City’s title defence seemed a formality at one stage, but Jurgen Klopp’s men have battled valiantly to close the gap, with just the single point now separating both clubs, and with a game at the Etihad still to come next month. The Reds are now on a nine-game winning run and remain unbeaten in 2022 in the Premier League.
The landscape is not quite as vibrant for Watford. The Hornets are currently circling the drain near the foot of the table and three points adrift from safety. Roy Hodgson’s men did beat Southampton last time out, so he will be looking to build from that result and potentially produce the mother of all upsets this weekend.

Liverpool vs Watford: Match Stats
For all the praise lavished on Mohamed Salah’s goalscoring ability, the prolific Egyptian is a pretty devastating playmaker, as well. Only Trent Alexander-Arnold (11) has registered more assists than Salah (10) in the Premier League this season, as well as big chances created (16 to 14). In fact, only five players have created big chances in double digits this term: Alexander-Arnold (16), Salah (14), Bruno Fernandes (14), Harry Kane (13) and Kevin De Bruyne (10). That is quite esteemed company from a player who is currently leading the Golden Boot charge, but as Kane proved last season, you can come out on top for both goals scored and assists provided.

Watford have had two wins against Liverpool in the last seven years, both 3-0s at home. Despite suffering relegation in 2019/20, the Hornets, then under Nigel Pearson produced a memorable triumph at Vicarage Road, in which Ismaila Sarr netted a six-minute brace, and Troy Deeney bagged a third. They could do with a similar result here.
