Liverpool vs Fulham: Predictions
From one extreme to the other, after going 68 games at Anfield without defeat in the Premier League, Liverpool have now lost five in a row, a first for the club in their 129-year history. Jurgen Klopp will now have to find a way of tempering his side’s current nosedive when Fulham travel north this weekend.
The reigning champions most recently suffered defeat to a rejuvenated Chelsea, which now means they are closer to the relegation zone than current runaway leaders Manchester City. They are also 36 points worse off at this stage of the competition than last season the largest negative points differential by a defending champion in Premier League history.
Fulham by contrast have enjoyed a blistering start to the New Year, in which time they have collected two wins, six draws and restored some parity with those above them. The current gap between Scott Parker’s men in 18th and Newcastle in 17th is now just three points.
The Cottagers were recently edged out in an all-London affair on Thursday night, losing 1-0 to Tottenham, but there have been noticeable green shoots of recovery in Fulham’s game over the last few weeks, and they will travel to Merseyside confident of getting a result.

Liverpool vs Fulham: Match Stats
It was another frustrating evening for Mohamed Salah against Chelsea, with the Egyptian hooked with 30 minutes to go, and visibly annoyed with the decision. But, the 28-year-old remains the leader in this year’s Golden Boot race (17 goals) and boasts a prodigious record against newly-promoted clubs, having been directly involved in 15 goals across his 11 home Premier League games against them (nine goals, six assists).
Jurgen Klopp, likewise, will be looking to stem the flow of this current decline and get the Reds back on track for a top-four finish, and he too enters this game with a near-flawless record against newly-promoted teams, having never suffered defeat in the league against them (14 wins, one draw).

Fulham will enter this game with a crumb of comfort knowing they held the champions to a stalemate in the reverse fixture, with Bobby Decordova-Reid nearly handing the west Londoners maximum reward were it not for a late Salah penalty. On a wider scale, the Reds have lost just one of their 23 top-flight home games against Fulham, which came in May 2012 under Kenny Dalglish.
