It hasn’t been any easy qualification task for Northern Ireland who were placed in the same group as Italy and Switzerland while Bulgaria and Lithuania were not easy opponents either so a return of five points isn’t great but not a totally unexpected outcome. A lack of goals is a major issue with only five netted in the group stages although they have only conceded seven. At home, Northern Ireland are struggling with no win in their last nine in all competitions and if you remove friendlies no win since March 2019.

Lithuania have had a tough campaign having played a game more than Northern Ireland (seven) and having just three points (to five for their opponents here). Defending has been a huge problem for them having shipped 18 times in qualifying. On the road, they have failed to win a World Cup qualifier since October 2012 when they won on the road away to Lichenstein.
