Lithuania vs Italy: Predictions
Roberto Mancini’s side opened their World Cup Qualifiers with back-to-back 2-0 wins over Northern Ireland and Bulgaria which has them sitting pretty at the top of Group C – ahead of Switzerland on goal difference. Wednesday’s visitors will be hoping they can continue from where they left off on Sunday having not qualified for the 2018 World Cup.
Xherdan Shaqiri’s second-minute strike on Sunday was enough to provide Switzerland with the three points in their game against Lithuania. Despite the narrow scoreline, Valdas Urbonas’s side only managed one shot on target and 31% of the possession.
The Italians inflicted national suffering after not qualifying for the 2018 Russia World Cup, however, their hosts on Wednesday have never qualified for the finals of a major tournament in their history. The loss to Sweden which saw the Italians denied a place at Russia 2018 was a new low for the four-time winners who will be all out to avoid the same happening this time around.
