After falling away in the La Liga title race, Sevilla find themselves embroiled in an extremely close battle to finish in the top four. Julen Lopetegui’s side are currently third, level on points with second-placed Barcelona and Atletico Madrid in fourth, with six games left to play.
More importantly, though, is the fact that Sevilla are just three points clear of fifth-placed Real Betis and they go into this game in bad form. Sevilla have managed just one win from their past six La Liga matches, drawing three and losing two. Both of those defeats have come in their past three matches and the most recent will also be the most agonising, as Lopetegui’s men gave up a 2-0 lead to lost 3-2 against Real Madrid, conceding an injury-time winner from Karim Benzema.
In contrast, Levante have won two of their past three La Liga matches, but things are look a lot worse for the host. Despite the two wins, Levante remain 19th and six points from safety with six games left to play. Alessio Lisci’s side have managed just five wins all season, fewer than any other team in La Liga, while they also have the worst defence conceding 62 goals.
Levante may take hope from their recent home form, however, having won two of their past four matches at the Ciutat de Valencia, after managing just one victory from their previous 17. But they are the walking wounded at the moment, missing the likes of Skhodran Mustafi, Martin Caceres and Roger Marti – the later having scored 44 of Levante’s 306 goals since 2014/15.
