Everton and Leeds have had unfortunately similar seasons in the Premier League this year and go into their relegation battle having recently sacked their managers. For Everton, Frank Lampard’s departure was followed by a swift appointment of Sean Dyche, and the former Burnley man has already taken charge of two matches.

In his first game, Everton beat then-league leaders Arsenal 1-0 at Goodison Park with a typically staunch defensive Dyche performance, frustrating the Gunners. But reality hit in the very next match, as Everton were uninspiring in their 2-0 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield which leaves them in the relegation zone.

Sitting one place and one point above Everton are Leeds, who recently sacked Jesse Marsch after a 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest. It was a seventh consecutive league game without victory for the Yorkshire club, though that run did include games against Man City, Newcastle and Brentford.

However, unlike Everton, Leeds are still without a permanent replacement for Marsch with Michael Skubala in caretaker charge for the past two matches and for the foreseeable future. A double-header against Man Utd gave Skubala a baptism of fire and after a 2-2 draw in their first game, which did see Leeds go 2-0 up, the Red Devils made light work of the second in a 2-0 win.

Everton vs Leeds match stats

Everton are the worst team in front of goal in the Premier League this season with just 16 goal scored in their 22 matches, and only three players have scored more than once for them – with one now playing for Newcastle (Anthony Gordon). However, at the same time, Leeds have won just 12 points from their past 19 games in the Premier League and will be hoping to avoid their worst run across 20 matches in the league since 1947.

Junior Firpo returned to the starting XI in the 2-0 defeat to Man Utd last week and is likely to continue their this weekend, but the Dominican is something of a yellow card magnet. The left-back has been booked 13 times in his 30 Premier League appearances, at an average of one every 155 minutes, the worst ratio of any player to play at least 2,000 minutes in the competition’s history.
