Leeds vs Aston Villa: Predictions
It’s been a strong return to Premier League football for Leeds United, who recently jumped above Arsenal into the top half of the table after comprehensively putting Southampton to the sword, and Marcelo Bielsa will feel confident of maintaining their residence in 10th this weekend, given what happened at Villa Park.
Dean Smith’s charges were riding the crest of a wave when they welcomed Leeds to Birmingham in late October, having pulled off that 7-2 win over Liverpool and a 1-0 triumph against Leicester, but it was the Elland Road club who were victorious on the day, smashing Aston Villa 3-0.
By contrast, the Villans enter this contest in West Yorkshire in form almost diametrically at odds with those two wins back in autumn, losing to the Foxes 2-1 last time out, and being held to a goalless stalemate by relegation-threatened Brighton the game prior.
Just the single point now separates both these sides heading into Saturday night’s game, though Smith’s men do have two games in hand on Leeds. Patrick Bamford netted a hat-trick in the reverse fixture, but can Leeds’ main man repeat the trick? Or will Villa bounce back?

Leeds vs Aston Villa: Match Stats
Leeds like to play with a high line which could go one two ways for the visitors. If Watkins holds his run, he could have a lot of joy playing on the shoulder of the defence, but jump the gun early and Bielsa’ backline could have a comfortable 90 minutes; the Villa marksman has registered the second-most offsides this term of any player in the league (20) and Leeds could look to exploit his spring-heeled exploits.
Set pieces could also play a crucial role in this contest. Leeds (144) and Villa (139) rank fifth and sixth respectively this season for most corners, which is no surprise given they both play with overlapping full-backs, so there will undoubtedly be significant heat on the bylines.
23 October 2020 – Aston Villa 0-3 Leeds – Premier League
28 April 2019 – Leeds 1-1 Aston Villa – Championship
23 December 2018 – Aston Villa 2-3 Leeds – Championship
13 April 2018 – Aston Villa 1-0 Leeds – Championship

It was easy pickings in the reverse fixture for Bamford, who netted a quite brilliant hat-trick to put Villa to the sword. In fact, Leeds are now looking to complete their first league double over Aston Villa since the 1975/76 campaign.
