West Ham and Leeds United are caught in winless runs that have seen them both slip down the Premier League table, adding a huge emphasis on this showdown. The Hammers are tailspinning to the foot of the table with five defeats on the bounce, which has added considerable pressure on David Moyes’ shoulders.
The sagacious Scot is struggling to integrate summer signings Gianluca Scamacca, Lucas Paqueta and Thilo Kehrer, while fans have started to question his stubborn tactical approach, which many feel leans far too much towards caution and pragmatism — and is ultimately stifling the creative freedom of his side.
Leeds meanwhile aren’t quite as downtrodden as their east London counterparts, with Jesse Marsch’s men slightly higher in the table and only winless in three, though two of those were against Man City and Tottenham. Their most recent draw with top-four aspirants Newcastle offers a suggestion of promise.

Leeds United vs West Ham match stats
One of the main problems Moyes has faced this season is getting Scamacca to acclimatise to his tactics and the Premier League. By no means a battering ram in the mould of Michail Antonio, the Italian’s towering frame belies an intricacy on the ball, something you feel Moyes has failed to recognise. As such, the summer recruit is yet to register double digits for shots on target. Compare that to Leeds’ Rodrigo, who is on 15 so far and has bagged nine goals.
What does bode well for Moyes is that he has never lost away from home against Leeds in the Premier League. During four previous visits, he has won three and drawn one, giving him the joint-best record for unbeaten runs by a single manager at Elland Road, alongside John Gregory and Gerry Francis. It also helps that Jarrod Bowen has scored in his past two games against Leeds, something that will no doubt be on his mind as he looks to rediscover his form.
