Leeds United vs Burnley Championship predictions and stats: Side with Firpo to be carded in the early kick-off
Leeds United and Burnley both have aspirations of returning to the Premier League this season. The pair will face off in the Championship on Saturday lunchtime at Elland Road.
Three predictions for Leeds vs Burnley
Wilfried Gnonto 1+ Shot on Target & Lyle Foster 1+ Fouls Won (6/5 with Sky Bet)
After being heavily linked with a move away from Elland Road this summer, Wilfried Gnonto remains at the club. The Italian has started the new campaign in typically exciting fashion, and across just two home matches so far, he has recorded nine shots, with three of those hitting the target.
Lyle Foster is a potential Golden Boot candidate in the second tier this season and can often be a handful for defenders. Across the quartet of league games he has appeared in, he has recorded fouls won totals of 2,2,1,3. Combining him to win one foul and Gnonto to register a shot on target pays 6/5.
Junior Firpo to be Carded (11/4 with bet365)
Junior Firpo has been somewhat of a card magnet since arriving in West Yorkshire in 2021. Looking back at his disciplinary record in league matches for Leeds, the Spaniard has been carded 23 of his 73 league outings (31%). However, when looking at just home matches, that ratio rises to 16 cards in 39 appearances (41%).
With odds of 11/4 implying a 27% chance of Firpo being carded on Saturday and this selection landing in 41% of home matches since 2021, we are getting a generous price, considering this is a challenging game against another promotion rival.
Ethan Ampadu & Josh Brownhill to be carded (16/1 with BoyleSports)
Continuing the theme of bookings, I’ve also had a couple of quid on Ethan Ampadu and Josh Brownhill to find their way into referee James Bell’s notebook. Ampadu is averaging two fouls per game this season and was booked on international duty for Wales last week.
Josh Brownhill has seen yellow on two of his five visits to Elland Road. Over the last three league seasons for Burnley, the midfielder has picked up 24 cards, and combining him and Ampadu pays 16/1 with BoyleSports.

How to watch Leeds vs Burnley
Leeds United’s fixture with Burnley will be shown live on Sky Sports+ in the United Kingdom. The game kicks off at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 14th.
How both teams go into Leeds vs Burnley
Leeds can count themselves unlucky not to have managed a top-2 finish last term after accruing 90 points, but after losing many of their star players, their task ahead remains arduous. Daniel Farke’s men have started the new campaign well after a turbulent summer and remain unbeaten at this early stage.
Leeds have kept three consecutive clean sheets after a thrilling 3-3 draw with newly promoted Portsmouth on the season’s opening day. A solid point on the road at West Brom was followed by 2-0 victories over Sheffield Wednesday and Hull City, and they arrive here as the odds-on favourites with the bookmakers to collect three points.
Burnley struggled in the top flight under Vincent Kompany and are now under the stewardship of Scott Parker, who has twice achieved promotion at this level. The Clarets made the best possible start to life in the Championship with a 4-1 win over Luton and a 5-0 thumping of Cardiff.
Since then, they have lost to league leaders Sunderland and played out a heated 1-1 draw in the East Lancashire derby against Blackburn Rovers, who were reduced to ten men early into the second half.
It’s also worth noting that these two teams are the current favourites with the most bookmakers to achieve automatic promotion, and this clash may provide some key indicators for how the campaign may play out.
Leeds Team News
The hosts have no injury concerns ahead of this clash. Brendan Aaronson looks set to remain in attack behind Mateo Joseph, while Daniel Farke may be tempted to offer a start to former Fortuna Dusseldorf midfielder Ao Tanaka.
Burnley Team News
On the other hand, the Clarets have a long list of absentees for the trip across the Pennines. Zian Flemming, Maximi Esteve, Nathan Redmond, Jordan Beyer, Aaron Ramsey and Mike Tresor will all miss out through injury.
