Poland can take control of Uefa Nations League Group A1 with a victory over Italy on Sunday evening.

Jerzy Brzęczek’s men currently sit top of Group A1 with seven points from four games so far. A victory in Reggio Emilia on Sunday will leave them four points clear of Italy. Couple that with a defeat or draw for the Netherlands against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Poland will have safe passage to the 2022 finals in October 2021.

That being said, Italy are unbeaten in this season’s Nations League so far having won one and drawn three of their matches. They already have both games against the Netherlands out of the way and, in fact, their unbeaten streak across all competitions stretches all the way back to September 2018, spanning 21 games.

Roberto Mancini’s men beat Estonia 4-0 in a friendly on Wednesday while Poland won 2-0 against Ukraine on the same night. However, the Azzurri will be high on confidence heading into what could be the defining fixture of this Nations League group.

Group A1 has been one of the tightest Nations League groups this time around, with only one game (Poland 3-0 Bosnia Herzegovina) being separated by more than one goal. This is well reflected in the fact that Robert Lewandowski is the top scorer so far with just two goals, both coming in that 3-0 win for Poland back in October.

Italy have a depleted squad but should still be able to field a strong starting XI. With six goals in seven games so far in Serie A this season, Torino striker Andrea Belotti could be the one to watch for the Azzurri.
