Israel vs Scotland: Predictions
Steve Clarke will no doubt have one eye firmly on this summer’s European Championship, having secured Scotland’s qualification for the first time since 1996, but he will be desperate to mimc that triumph in the World Cup as well, with the nation’s last appearance at the quadrennial tournament in 1998.
They were minutes away from making a disastrous start to their qualification campaign, but a sublime improvised finish from John McGinn snatched a late point against Austria in midweek, with his acrobatic equaliser securing a 2-2 draw at Hampden Park, and keeping the feel-good factor alive under Clarke.
This weekend’s opponents come in the guise of Israel, a side they have come to know very well in recent years, with the two countries meeting in autumn’s Nations League, as well as locking horns in Path C of the play-offs for Euro 2020, in which Scotland sealed progression to final after a penalty shootout triumph.
The Blue and Whites must put that heartbreak to one side and refocus their gaze on making a strong start to Group F in these qualifiers, something they failed to do in their opening game, with Willibald Ruttensteiner’s side falling to a 2-0 loss at the hands of Denmark.

Israel vs Scotland: Match Stats
Israel and Scotland have contested in the same group for the past two Nations League, including the inaugural season, and in each of those games only once has one of these countries failed to score, which came in November’s meeting as Israel nicked a 1-0 win, so Clarke will be eager to rectify that anomaly.
Scotland looked good value for a point against an Austrian side that boasts Bayern Munich utility man David Alaba, and have shown they having attacking pedigree, particularly with the recent introduction of Che Adams in the international fold, who will no doubt be itching to open his account since switching allegiances.
18 Nov 2020 – Israel 1-0 Scotland – Nations League
08 Oct 2020 – Scotland 0-0 Israel – Euro 2020 Qualifiers
04 Sep 2020 – Scotland 1-1 Israel – Nations League
20 Nov 2018 – Scotland 3-2 Israel – Nations League
11 Oct 2018 – Israel 2-1 Scotland – Nations League
The match that will live long in Scotland folklore is that play-off final victory over Israel in early October, which set them on course for a meeting with Serbia, which Clarke’s men also won in a sudden death shootout and ended decades of heartache, with the nation competing in Euro 2020 this summer, and no doubt relishing a Group D clash with neighbours England.
