Inter Milan vs Shakhtar Donetsk: Predictions, betting tips, odds & match preview

Inter Milan are looking to book their place in the Europa League final as they take on Shakhtar Donetsk in the semi-final on Monday evening.

We’re expecting an entertaining clash between two in-form sides at the Merkur-Spiel Arena so read on for our Inter Milan vs Shakhtar Donetsk betting tips and predictions here.

Inter Milan are looking to add some silverware to their extensive cabinet in Antonio Conte’s first season as head coach. For a club with such an illustrious history, a lack of success in this tournament will see them go at least ten years without having won a major trophy which will be seen as a huge failure by the board and the supporters.

The Nerazzurri have enjoyed a progressive first campaign under Conte though, finishing second behind the dominant Juventus and reaching the semi-final stage of the Coppa Italia. They’re now favourites to reach the Europa League final too where they will take on either Manchester United or Sevilla if they can overcome Shakhtar Donetsk on Monday evening.

But that will be no easy task. Hirnyky are perhaps under-rated by some due to come from a less-fancied Ukranian Premier League, but they were terrific throughout the domestic campaign in winning the title by 23 points and they’ve enjoyed success in this competition before too, lifting the trophy in 2009 when it was still known as the UEFA Cup.

Despite earning impressive results against the likes of Atalanta and Manchester City, Luis Castro’s men were knocked out of the Champions League in the group stages but they’ve overcome tough opposition in the shape of Benfica, Wolfsburg and Basel to make this semi-final and you can guarantee that they won’t go down without a serious fight in Düsseldorf.

Inter Milan vs Shakhtar Donetsk Predictions

Squawka Stat: Shakhtar Donetsk have scored two or more goals in each of their last five games in all competitions.

Shakhtar have always been known for favouring an attack-minded style of play. Although they have had to play away from their home town for the majority of the last few campaigns, they’ve never really strayed from their attacking style and that won’t change here despite coming up against perceivably stronger opposition.

The Ukranian side have not failed to score in any of their last seven Europa League games, scoring twice at least in each of their last five in all competitions and having racked up no fewer than seven goals in their two European fixtures since the tournament’s return.

In short, we expect them to get on the scoresheet at least here. However, we still expect Inter to earn the victory. The Italian side have have now gone ten games unbeaten in all competitions, in a run that has included victories over the likes of Napoli, Atalanta and in this competition Getafe and Bayer Leverkusen – so we think they’ll have the quality for yet another win here.

Squawka Stat: Inter Milan forward Romelu Lukaku has found the net in each of his last six European matches.

One major reason for that quality that Inter show as a team is their reliance on Romelu Lukaku in front of goal. After two solid if unspectacular campaigns with Manchester United, the Belgian forward has really come into his own in his first season in Italy and will head into this semi-final full of confidence on Monday night.

27 year old has racked up no fewer than 31 goals in all competitons for the Nerazzurri this season and he has particularly enjoyed the Europa League, scoring in each of his team’s four appearances in the competition and he also scored in the side’s last two games of the Champions League group stages against Slavia Prague and Barelona.

After scoring the all-important second against Bayer Leverkusen, which turned out to be the winner on Tuesday night, expect Lukaku’s power, pace and deadly finishing to cause an often unorganised Shakhtar backline some serious problems here.

Squawka Bet Tip:Romelu Lukaku to score at any time @ 23/20 with Sky Bet – odds correct at the time of writing
