Hull City vs Sheffield United Championship predictions and stats: Best Bets for Friday Night Football

Hull City and Sheffield United return to Championship action on Friday after the September international break.

Hull finished just one place and three points outside the play-offs last season, and their ambitious owners will set their sights on a top-six finish this term. The Blades were relegated from the Premier League last season after a dismal campaign which saw them amass just 16 points.

Three Predictions for Hull City vs Sheffield United

Marvin Mehlem 2+ Fouls Won  (5/6 with Sky Bet)

After tasting relegation with Darmstadt 98 last season, 26-year-old Marvin Mehlem swapped Germany for Humberside, making the switch to Hull for an undisclosed fee. In the Bundesliga last season, the midfielder was fouled 2.1 times per 90 minutes on average. Since he arrived in the Championship, no player in the league has won more fouls, with Mehlem racking up 12 in total. With totals of 3,3,1 & 5 so far this term, and after clearing this line in 14 of his 20 league starts last season, I’m happy to get behind the 5/6 on offer for him to be fouled twice or more on Friday.

Sheffield Utd to Win & Kieffer Moore Over 0.5 Shots on Target (17/10 with bet365)

Hull are yet to win in the Championship (D3 L1), while Sheffield United are unbeaten (W2 D2). The Blades have made some impressive signings in the form of Callum O’Hare and Harrison Burrows, while Alfie Gilchrist and Jesurun Rak-Sakyi have arrived on loan. These transfers should leave Blades in good stead to bounce back to the top flight at the first time if asking, and a key figure could be another summer signing, Kieffer Moore. The 32-year-old has recorded six shots on target so far across four matches and looks a solid proposition against a Hull side averaging 15 shots faced per game.

Kieffer Moore to Score a header (17/2 with bet365)

After January last season, the striker scored seven goals in 14 starts for Ipswich, helping them to the promised land. Known for his aerial ability, a massive 53% of his shots in 2023/24 came via his head in the Championship, in a season where he netted four headed goals in total for club and country. Sky Bet are offering just 5/1 for him to score a header against Hull, so take the considerably bigger boosted offering of 17/2 with bet365.

How to watch Hull City vs Sheffield United Live

Hull City vs Sheffield United will be shown live in the United Kingdom on Sky Sports Ultra. The game kicks-off at 7:45pm BST.

How both teams go into Hull City vs Sheffield United

Tim Walter’s Tigers were beaten 2-0 at Elland Road two weeks ago after conceding twice in the second half. A point against Bristol City at home on the opening day against Bristol City was followed up with another 1-1 draw on the road at Plymouth before a goalless draw in front of their own fans against Millwall.

With Chris Wilder’s men yet to find top gear, it bodes well that they already have eight points on the board, with two wins and two draws to their name. It may take time for so many new players to harmonise. Still, even at this early stage, it’s clear that Wilder is blessed with the ingredients to cook up a Championship concoction that is more than capable of challenging for promotion.

Hull City Team News

Cody Drameh, Kasey Palmer, and Ryan Giles have all been drafted in at Hull this summer for English clubs, while Mohamed Belloumi, Liam Millar and Marvin Mehlem have arrived from clubs around Europe. Tim Walter’s only injury concerns ahead of are Ryan Longman, who will miss the game through injury and Dogukan Sinik, who continues his recovery from a long-term injury.

Sheffield United Team News

Chris Wilder is expected to name an unchanged XI to the one he named in the 1-0 win over Watford before the international break. Kieffer Moore has been cleared to start the game after a slight injury scare in his Nations League fixture against Montenegro on Monday evening.
