Two former Premier League sides, both Huddersfield and Wigan look unlikely to be challenging for a return to the top flight this season unless they turn things around early. Hosts Huddersfield are currently in the relegation zone with just four points from their opening seven matches, only above Coventry who have played two fewer matches.
The Terriers have had a tough start to the new season, already facing two of the three recently-relegated sides, losing to both Burnley and Norwich. Their sole victory of the campaign came at home to Stoke, but they have been unable to build on that with three defeats and one draw since. Huddersfield were also dumped out of the EFL Cup in the first round, beaten 4-1 by Preston.
Wigan aren’t doing much better, currently 15th with two wins from their opening seven matches. However, unlike Huddersfield, Wigan’s current problem isn’t losing it’s too many draws. The Latics have drawn four matches so far with three coming in their opening three matches.
They too have faced Norwich and Burnley this season, drawing with the former but being thrashed 5-1 by the Clarets towards the end of August. But they did get their second win of the campaign in their most recent match, beating Luton 2-1.
