Hibernian vs Rangers: Predictions
The Gers put a disappointing 1-1 draw at Motherwell behind them as they humbled Ross County 5-0 at the weekend to keep the chasm between themselves and perennial champions Celtic to 23 points. Steven Gerrard will now look to maintain his side’s unbeaten run and secure a second successive victory over Hibernian in as many months when they travel to the capital later this week.
The Edinburgh club will be licking the wounds from a debilitating 3-0 reversal at the hands of St. Johnstone in the Scottish League Cup semi-final on Saturday, with the Saints exposing Hibernian’s soft underbelly and cruising to victory. Jack Ross will be desperate for a response when the runaway leaders visit Easter Road.
Following that aforementioned defeat on Boxing Day in Glasgow, Hibs’ form drastically nosedived, with the club losing each of the next two home games before stabilising with a 1-1 draw at Celtic earlier this month. That result against the reigning champions proved a springboard for Hibernian to beat Kilmarnock last time out in the league, but an abrupt exit in the Scottish League Cup has dampened the mood at Easter Road.
Gerrard will be hoping to dish out further punishment against the fourth-placed side and ensure his team remain firmly on track to thwart Celtic’s domestic stranglehold, and once again bring silverware to Ibrox come the end of the campaign.

Hibernian vs Rangers: Match Stats
Rangers have been in all-conquering mood this season, with Gerrard’s men yet to suffer defeat in 25 matches and dropping just six points. The Glasgow club have been sensational at both ends of the pitch, netting a league-high 65 goals, while shipping in just seven, which has culminated in 19 cleans sheets, at least eight more than their closest challengers in that department. Much of that success has come down to captain James Tavernier, who has not only been rock solid at the back, but is also the club’s top scorer (11 goals) and chief creator (nine assists).
26 December 2020 – Rangers 1-0 Hibernian – Scottish Premiership
20 September 2020 – Hibernian 2-2 Rangers – Scottish Premiership
05 February 2020 – Rangers 2-1 Hibernian – Scottish Premiership
20 December 2019 – Hibernian 0-3 Rangers – Scottish Premiership
11 August 2019 – Rangers 6-1 Hibernian – Scottish Premiership
As mentioned Rangers have only dropped six points this season, with the club drawing three of their opening 25 matches, and winning the rest. One of those draws came in Edinburgh earlier this season. The capital club secured a 2-2 draw at Easter Road in September with goals from Drey Wright and Christian Doidge. An Ianis Hagi finish separated the sides last month, but Ross will be hoping for a repeat of their previous showdown in Edinburgh.
