This particular showdown against Ukraine, a charity match, marks the 1,000th international match for the German national team. Sports director Rudi Voller commented: “The Weserstadion offers just the right setting for this special anniversary match, with which we can not only show our support for Ukraine, but also provide concrete help and collect donations.”
Interim Ukraine boss Ruslan Rotan will first take to this warm-up before facing two crucial Euro 2024 qualifiers against North Macedonia and Malta. Everton’s Vitalii Mykolenko, Chelsea’s Mykhailo Mudryk and Bournemouth’s Illya Zabarnyi are among those in his latest international squad.

Despite never beating Germany at international level, going winless in eight games, Ukraine usually get on the scoresheet, firing in six of those encounters. Their two latest fixtures in 2020’s Nations League saw Ruslan Malinovskyi and Roman Yaremchuk get on the scoresheet, though the latter is currently sidelined.
While Timo Werner is the top scorer of the current Germany squad, netting 24 goals, Niclas Fullkrug is the man on form for Flick.
