Chelsea returned from the World Cup break with a 2-0 win over Bournemouth to end their five-game winless streak in the Premier League, which also included three-straight defeats. But any Chelsea fans hoping for that to be the start of their revival under Graham Potter were very quickly brought back down to earth with a slam.
On New Year’s Day, Chelsea underwhelmed against Nottingham Forest and left the City Ground with a 1-1 draw, a disastrous result considering their hosts were in the relegation zone. They have since lost back-to-back matches against Manchester City, first a 1-0 defeat in the Premier League in which the Blues did impress and then a 4-0 thrashing where the opposite happened. The latest run of results has Potter’s job in doubt once more, with Chelsea fans serenading former boss Thomas Tuchel in the 4-0 defeat at the Etihad.
To make matters worse for Chelsea fans, they are the lowest-ranked West London team in the Premier League right now. Brentford are one point ahead but leading the pack are Fulham, three points clear of Chelsea in seventh and very much enjoying life right now.
The Cottagers are on 28 points after just 18 games, already matching their total tally for the 2020/21 campaign when they were relegated, and are on a four-match winning streak. After a tough run saw them lose to both Man City and Manchester United before the World Cup, Fulham returned with a comfortable 3-0 win over London rivals Crystal Palace. They then beat Southampton and Leicester City to further climb up the league, before knocking Hull City out of the FA Cup.

Fulham vs Chelsea match stats
Chelsea aren’t in good form but, in the past, that hasn’t mattered against Fulham. The Blues have lost just one of their 30 Premier League matches against Fulham and seven of the 74 league meetings in history. Of the 1,542 fixtures to have been played at least 50 times in English Football League history, Fulham’s win rate against Chelsea is the lowest.
However, Chelsea will have to buck their ideas up in front of goal if they are to turn things around against Fulham. Only three teams have had fewer shots on target in the Premier League this season than the Blues, with their average of 3.71 per game also one of the worst in the division.
16 January 2021 – Fulham 0-1 Chelsea – Premier League
3 March 2019 – Fulham 1-2 Chelsea – Premier League
2 December 2018 – Chelsea 2-0 Fulham – Premier League
1 March 2014 – Fulham 1-3 Chelsea – Premier League
This has largely been a one-sided rivalry with Chelsea beating their neighbours 50 times compared to just 11 Fulham victories. You have to go back to March 2006 to find the most recent Fulham win, with Chelsea unbeaten in 21 including seven straight victories.
