After hosting the last World Cup in 2019, where they suffered a 2-1 loss to eventual champions USA in the quarter-finals, France will be keen to make a good start in what is their fifth appearance in the competition, especially with Brazil to come up in a clash of the Group F favourites on matchday two. As for Jamaica, they made their WWC debut at France 2019 and went home early after three defeats that yielded a solitary goal, scored by Havana Solaun in the 4-1 defeat to Australia in their final game.
Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw, formerly of Bordeaux, will be Jamaica’s leading attacking threat and she comes into this summer’s competition on the back of an outstanding 2022/23 season with Manchester City in which Shaw finished as the second-highest scorer in the English Women’s Super League with 20 goals across 22 matches. In the absence of Marie-Antoinette Katoto and Delphine Cascarino, the French will be looking to Kadidiatou Diani who to date has managed 22 strikes in 84 appearances for her country, she also finished as the leading scorer in the French top-flight last season with 17 goals in as many matches.

Les Bleues have won their last three opening matches at the tournament, beating Nigeria 1-0 in their group opener at Germany 2011, England 1-0 at Canada 2015, and Korea Republic 4-0 on home soil in 2019.
