Man Utd vs Liverpool prediction: Historic rivals clash in the Carolinas
Man Utd vs Liverpool latest prediction
Man Utd face Liverpool at 12:30am (UK time) on Sunday 4th August at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia, South Carolina.
Matchday three of the forthcoming Premier League season will see the official first meeting in England between Erik ten Hag and Arne Slot, who coach Manchester United and Liverpool, respectively. The pair know each other from their period coaching Dutch powerhouses Ajax and Feyenoord, with both sharing two wins apiece, albeit Ten Hag won the two most recent showdowns.
This stateside clash is an immediate meeting with Slot early into his Reds premiership, having succeeded the club’s era-defining tactician Jürgen Klopp. So far, it’s a promising start, with the 19-time English champions successfully navigating two friendly matches on American soil. A narrow 1-0 win over Real Betis in Pittsburgh was followed by a similar winning margin against Premier League rivals Arsenal (2-1) in Philadelphia.
As for United, they’re further ahead in their preparations, with this being their last pre-season friendly before meeting their neighbours, Manchester City, at Wembley on August 10th to bring up the curtain on the 2024/25 season. Before that Community Shield showdown, Ten Hag hopes to end United’s summer on a high note. It began with a loss at Rosenborg before they recovered against Rangers, having also faced Mikel Arteta’s men, against whom they suffered a 2-1 defeat. United also defeated Betis by one goal. The last two games were played in California.
Since their loss to Rosenborg, the Red Devils have scored in their subsequent three pre-season games, while Liverpool have netted in wins over Real Betis and Arsenal. Furthermore, both teams scored in Man Utd’s and Liverpool’s previous outings.

Amad Diallo to score anytime @ 3/11 with Bet365
One player hoping to nail down regular minutes under Ten Hag next season is Amad Diallo, who netted in two of Man Utd’s last three pre-season fixtures. “Yes, he is performing well and [he is having] a good pre-season so far,” the Dutch coach said. “You could see absolutely he is making an uplift in his game.”
Man Utd team news
Leny Yoro and Rasmus Hojlund have been ruled out for three months and six weeks due to injuries as United faces setbacks again. Marcus Rashford and Antony were forced off during the game against Real Betis and are now uncertain. The Red Devils will have their Euro 2024 and Copa America stars back after this match, so there’s a possibility that Harry Amass could continue at left-back. Ten Hag confirmed that the club won’t take any risks with Rashford.
Liverpool team news
Curtis Jones overcame an injury to start in Liverpool’s victory over Arsenal. After using a 4-2-2-2 formation against Real Betis, the Reds returned to a more traditional 4-3-3 lineup in their last game, with Mohamed Salah in his usual position on the right wing. Similar to Manchester United, Liverpool are still missing several of its key players who are on international duty.
Man Utd vs Liverpool head-to-head
Liverpool lost only two out of 15 meetings from March 2016 to April 2022. However, the Merseyside giants have won only once in their last five matches.
