Man City vs AC Milan prediction: European heavyweights rumble in the Bronx
Man City vs AC Milan latest prediction
Pep Guardiola’s team heads to City’s spiritual U.S. home in the Bronx (where sister club New York City FC plays their home games) after a chastening 4-3 loss to Celtic earlier this week. Several big names, though, got on the scoresheet, with Erling Haaland and Jack Grealish on target. However, many big names are still on their summer break. Guardiola’s admission that star goalkeeper Ederson could leave City this summer has dominated the headlines around City’s U.S. preseason tour.
Even so, there’s an air of uncertainty at the club, given that Guardiola himself is entering the final year of his contract, and the hearing in November, when they are set to defend themselves against 115 charges of breaching the Premier League’s financial rules, is looming. Nevertheless, Guardiola will only be focused on delivering a fifth consecutive title and will look to ensure his side is ready for their Community Shield clash against the Red Devils on August 10th.
Man City take on Milan at Yankee Stadium in New York City on Saturday at 11pm (UK time).
After drawing 1-1 with Rapid Vienna last week, AC Milan is kicking off their preseason tour of the USA with their first game. The team will be led by new coach Paulo Fonseca, who took over after Stefano Pioli departed in the summer. After this first test, the upcoming matches against Real Madrid in Chicago and Barcelona in Baltimore will further showcase their American star Christian Pulisic, who will be joined by his USMNT teammate Yunus Musah in Milan’s squad.
Despite winning the 2021-22 title, Milan finished 20 points behind Napoli in 2022-23 and 19 points behind Inter last term. Fonseca, who previously guided Roma in Serie A, inherits a team that netted 76 goals and conceded 49 times last season, making them the league’s second-best offensive and 11th-best defensive side.
Man City latest team news
The Manchester City players who participated in the Euros and Copa América will not be available for Saturday’s match. Additionally, Rodri is dealing with an injury.
Young players such as Luke Mbete, Jahmai Simpson-Pusey, and Josh Wilson-Esbrand all played against Celtic and might keep their spots in defence. Elsewhere, Rico Lewis, Kalvin Phillips, Oscar Bobb and James McAtee got minutes against the Scottish champions.
Rumours have linked goalkeeper Ederson Moraes with a move to the Saudi Pro League. It will be interesting to see if Guardiola chooses to start Stefan Ortega once again.
AC Milan latest team news
The newly signed Álvaro Morata will not be playing due to enjoying a break following his Euro 2024 win. Fonseca’s side have already played two preseason matches, so they may field a stronger starting lineup against Guardiola’s team.
Regulars like Fikayo Tomori, Ismaël Bennacer, and Alessandro Florenzi all came on at halftime in their last match against Rapid Vienna, and they could start against City at Yankee Stadium. Rafael Leao, Samuel Chukwueze, and Luka Jovic have all travelled for the preseason tour, providing Milan with plenty of attacking options.
Man City vs AC Milan head-to-head
This will be the first friendly meeting between the sides. Manchester City and Milan have only previously played two competitive matches against each other, which came in the 1978/79 UEFA Cup. City won 5–2 in their Round of 16 showdown.
