Wolves vs West Ham prediction: Premier League stalwarts lock horns in Duval County

Wolves vs West Ham latest prediction

Two familiar Premier League foes meet in Florida with the game having a bit of extra spice due to the involvement of Julen Lopetegui, who stepped down as Wolves’ boss last summer and recently succeeded David Moyes as Hammers manager.

So far, the Spaniard has overseen a friendly draw with Hungarian side Ferencvaros, having come back from a two-goal halftime deficit, before defeating National League outfit Dagenham & Redbridge 1-0 last time out.

In sharp contrast to not being allocated transfer funds by his former club a year ago, Lopetegui has seen his club spend in excess of £65 million on former Wolves defender Max Kilman and rising Brazilian star Luis Guilherme.

West Ham take on Wolves at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida on Sunday at 12am (UK time).

Wolves have won both of their pre-season friendlies. They started with a 3-0 victory over Championship Bristol City and followed up with a match against newly promoted Serie A side Como. However, the Como match was marred by controversy after Hwang Hee-chan reported hearing racist abuse from one of the Como players. Shortly after the incident, Daniel Podence was sent off for throwing a punch.

While Wolves may have finished last season poorly, there is a change in atmosphere at Molineux following the early signings of Pedro Neto, Rodrigo Gomes, and Jorgen Strand Larsen.

More additions will soon follow as Kilman has departed for Saturday’s opponents. This seems like a Wolves side that could impress, especially with Yerson Mosquera returning from his loan at Villarreal.

Clashes with Crystal Palace and RB Leipzig will precede this match, followed by Wolves hosting Rayo Vallecano on August 10.

Wolves latest team news

Wolves remain without José Sá, Nélson Semedo, João Gomes, and Pedro Neto due to the quartet representing their nations at Euro 2024 or the Copa América.

Hwang Hee-chan may only be named on the substitutes’ bench at best, having missed training earlier this week.

Pedro Lima, João Gomes, and Larsen should all feature at some stage, with second-choice goalkeeper Daniel Bentley featuring between the sticks.

West Ham latest team news

Alphonse Areola, Vladimír Coufal, Tomáš Souček, Lucas Paquetá, Jarrod Bowen, and Michail Antonio are all expected to be unavailable for West Ham.

The starting lineup should not look too dissimilar from the Dagenham game, with Mohammed Kudus and Danny Ings most likely to be recalled. James Ward-Prowse is also available.

Wolves vs West Ham head-to-head

Last season, West Ham completed a Premier League double over Wolves.
