De Zerbi continues to feel injury pinch

Their first-ever European campaign has not been kind on the fitness of Brighton, who have had to cope with a massive number of injuries thanks, in part, to the extra strain upon their squad. Things are easing a little bit now, but the Seagulls have still been soldiering on without four key players in James Milner, Joao Pedro, Solly March and, perhaps most costly, Kaoru Mitoma.

Brighton had to wait until the 95th minute to salvage a 1-1 draw at home to Everton in the league on Saturday and although the goal came late, the manner of the performance highlighted just how much the south coast side are struggling without their key attackers.

Manager Roberto De Zerbi was in no doubt about just how much this season’s injury problems have hampered his side.

“I don’t love making excuses but are playing too often without injured players, and that maybe explains a lot of draws for us. Without Mitoma it’s a problem for us,” De Zerbi said after the draw with Everton.

“I would like only one thing – to have all players available to play. It’s difficult for Brighton to play without so many players – we have not got 25 players on the same level. I don’t know if Mitoma can play on Wednesday, but without him, we will be ready and try to win. The same at Fulham and then in Rome in the Europa League.”
