West Ham vs Bayer Leverkusen Predictions, Tips and Odds: Moyes insists Hammers still have ‘big chance’ in Europa League
West Ham host Bayer Leverkusen at the London Stadium in the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final clash on Thursday evening.
The Hammers trail 2-0 after the first leg and know they must beat a Leverkusen side — recently crowned Bundesliga champions — yet to suffer defeat in any competition this season by at least two goals simply to force extra time.

Hammers still have ‘big chance’ to progress, claims Moyes
For 82 minutes of last week’s first leg, West Ham did what most have failed to do so far this season in keeping Bayer Leverkusen’s irresistible attack at arm’s length, while they even missed an early chance to take the lead through Mohammed Kudus. Although that was, admittedly, their only shot of the match. But as the game wore on, the pressure became too much, and two late goals from Jonas Hofmann and Victor Boniface may well have sealed West Ham’s fate.
But that’s not the view of manager David Moyes who, despite admitting the manner of their defeat in Germany was disappointing, insists his side still have a ‘big chance’ to once again progress in Europe.
“There is huge disappointment,” said Moyes. “But we’re incredibly proud of the players to be in a quarter-final of European football.
“The level they’re playing against, you’ll see this team (Leverkusen) in the Champions League next season. We’ve got to accept that. It was one of the toughest draws of the teams left, that is the way it goes. We’ve got a big chance in the second leg still.”
Of course, simply scoring a goal is the first challenge, with West Ham now failing to do that in two games, while Bayer Leverkusen are on a run of four straight victories with clean sheets, while they’ve won 19 of their last 21 matches across all competitions and remain unbeaten this season.
West Ham vs Bayer Leverkusen match tip
Bayer Leverkusen to win to nil @ 27/10 with BetVictor
Bayer Leverkusen have won their last four matches (all comps) without conceding a goal, running up a 12-0 aggregate scoreline during that time. Meanwhile, West Ham are winless and goalless in their last two matches.
West Ham vs Bayer Leverkusen odds
Bayer Leverkusen are still unbeaten in all competitions this season, so it’s little surprise to see them the strong favourites to win the second leg despite having to travel away from home. West Ham’s form is tailing off at the worst possible time and they face an uphill battle to reach the semi-finals. Perhaps the Hammers could take advantage of any hangover from Die Werkself being crowned Bundesliga champions at the weekend.
