Tottenham to continue impressive run against promoted sides?
Tottenham’s quest for a top four finish took a blow before the international break as they were routinely beaten 3-0 by Fulham at Craven Cottage. However, with Villa only able to pick up a point against West Ham, a win here could see Spurs move back above them in the table for the time being at least.
That should be made easier by their impressive recent record against promoted sides, winning 13 of their last 15 matches (one draw, one defeat) including a 1-0 victory over the Hatters in the reverse fixture. Ange Postecoglou’s men also haven’t lost against a side in their debut season in the competition since 2010/11 when they fell to a 3-1 defeat to Blackpool and will be confident of extending that record with the home crowd behind them.
Luton, meanwhile, once again moved out of the relegation places after Nottingham Forest’s four point deduction saw them move up to 17th, one point clear of their relegation rivals. They have struggled against the top teams in terms of results so far in 2023/24 however, despite some impressive performances against the big boys, losing nine of their 10 matches against the current top seven.
Away from home they have picked up just two away wins all season, with those victories coming against 16th placed Everton and rock bottom Sheffield United. Their only away point against the current top 10 came in an incredible 4-4 draw with Newcastle earlier in the campaign, so Spurs will be expected to come out on top, even if it is a closely fought game.
Tottenham vs Luton match tip
Son Heung-min to score 2+ goals @ 23/10 with BetMGM
Son Heung-min has once again been Tottenham’s go-to guy this season, top scoring for his side with 14 Premier League goals. The South Korean has an impressive record against promoted sides, being directly involved in 31 goals in his last 33 games (21 goals, 10 assists) against sides that have come up from the Championship, including a hat-trick against Burnley earlier in the season.
Tottenham vs Luton odds
Only Arsenal and Liverpool (11) have picked up more home wins than Tottenham (10) in the Premier League so far this season and that is reflected in the odds, with Ange Postecoglou’s side odds on favourites to take home all three points. The Hatters have lost nine of their 10 matches against the current top seven sides so far this season (D1), but you can get them at 11/1 to end that run in North London.
