Tottenham vs Liverpool prediction, odds, tips & team news
Tottenham will host Liverpool in the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final on Wednesday 8th January. Check out our match preview and best bets, including a 22/1 Bet Builder.
Liverpool to Win & BTTS (7/5 with BetMGM)
Spurs suffered another defeat on Saturday as they went down 2-1 at home to Newcastle, leaving Ange Postecoglou’s side 12th in the Premier League table, 22 points behind leaders Liverpool having played a game less.
I fancy the Reds to take a lead back to Anfield for the second leg, and when they visited Spurs the weekend before Christmas, they came out 6-3 winners. The Lilywhites have only kept one clean sheet in their last ten, conceding an average of two goals per game in that period.
Liverpool on the other hand have won 23 of their 28 matches under Arne Slot this season and have not tasted defeat since the 14th of September. Liverpool have won six of their last seven on the road across all competitions, with both teams finding the net in four of those victories.
Curtis Jones to Score & Wataru Endo to be Carded – 22/1 (with BetMGM)
Both teams are expected to make several changes for this League Cup clash with Curtis Jones and Wataru Endo set to come in. Jones has made 10 starts for Liverpool in the league this season and has scored in three of those. In what could be a high-scoring game, and after an average of 1.05 shots on target per game this term, he looks good value to score against a Spurs central defence consisting of Djed Spence and Archie Gray.
Wataru Endo to be carded is the the second half of this 22/1 double. The Japanese midfielder may have only been shown one yellow card this season, but last year he picked up 12 in total. Paddy Power have him priced at just 11/10 to commit 3+ fouls in this clash, and the 9/2 as a single for a card with MGM makes much more appeal.

How both teams go into Tottenham vs Liverpool
It’s now been 17 years since Tottenham won their last piece of silverware. Since then, Spurs have come close to breaking that drought, with this being their latest opportunity. Ange Postecoglou, who has mentioned that he typically wins trophies in his second season at a club, began this season’s EFL Cup campaign with a narrow win against Coventry. Following that, they achieved two more one-goal victories, first against Manchester City and then against Manchester United in an entertaining match that ended 4-3. This thrilling encounter took place just a few days before their 6-3 loss to Liverpool, the defending League Cup holders.
Currently, Liverpool are sitting comfortably at the top both the Premier League and Champions League tables. Arne Slot’s team may not yet be dreaming of winning multiple trophies, but they enter the semi-finals as favourites. They started their EFL Cup journey with a commanding 5-1 victory over West Ham and had to work hard in subsequent wins against Brighton and Southampton. Liverpool are currently on a nine-game unbeaten run in this competition, with eight wins.
Tottenham team news
Spurs currently have more players missing than any other Premier League side. Guglielmo Vicario, Richarlison, and Ben Davies remain unavailable. Wilson Odobert, Cristian Romero, and Micky van de Ven have recently suffered thigh injuries, but no timeline has been provided for their recovery. Mikey Moore, Fraser Forster, and Radu Dragusin are all suffering from illness.
Liverpool team news
Joe Gomez is due back at the end of the month after suffering a thigh injury. Dominik Szoboszlai will be assessed closer to kick-off after suffering from illness over the weekend.
Tottenham vs Liverpool head-to-head
Tottenham have secured just one victory against Liverpool in their last 15 encounters across all competitions, recording 11 losses and three draws.
