Highest scoring half: 2nd half (21/20 with Sporting Index)
Premier League games at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium were slow burners last season. In the first half of matches, there were just 24 goals scored, with Tottenham netting 12 and conceding 12. After half-time, that number jumped up to 41 goals, with Tottenham scoring 26 and conceding 15.
How both teams go into Tottenham vs Everton
The second season of Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham makes its return to north London, with the Lilywhites’ first home game of the campaign. Home was a pretty happy place for Tottenham last season, with the north London club winning 13 of their 19 games at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium — losing the remaining six. Postecoglou’s men started the season with four straight home wins before their poor run of form, including victories over Manchester United and Liverpool. Of course, their win against Liverpool was full of controversy. But Postecoglou will be hoping for a similar start to the new campaign. They’ll need to improve somewhat following a 1-1 draw with Leicester to start things off.
Everton, on the other hand, were pretty average away from home. Last season wasn’t really a good one for away teams in the Premier League, so Everton’s five wins on the road isn’t overly bad. They also drew five games, so lost fewer away matches than they didn’t. However, all five of Everton’s away wins came in their opening eight matches on the road. After a 2-0 win over Burnley at Turf Moor in mid-December, Everton went winless in 11 away games. That run started with a 2-1 defeat at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium just before Christmas. Can the run end at the same stadium? If their 3-0 defeat to Brighton at open the campaign is anything to go by, Evertonians won’t be holding their breath.
Tottenham host Everton on Saturday, 24th August, at 3pm (UK time).
Tottenham team news
Rodrigo Bentancur was stretchered off against Leicester following a nasty head collision. While the Uruguayan was quickly awake and talking, it’s highly unlikely he’ll be risked in this match. Richarlison made a late appearance from the bench against Leicester as he works his way to full fitness.
Everton team news
Ashley Young is suspended, while Everton will remain without the likes of Youssouf Chermiti, Jarrad Branthwaite and Nathan Patterson. James Garner and Seamus Coleman are also major doubts, with the latter meaning Sean Dyche could be without all three of his usual options at right-back. Garner has also filled in at that position for Everton in the past, leaving Dyche with serious problems to solve.
Tottenham vs Everton head-to-head
Tottenham are unbeaten in their past seven games against Everton since a 5-4 defeat in the FA Cup in 2021. Four of those games have finished level, but Tottenham’s three victories have come at home.
