The second season of the Postecoglou era at Tottenham is set to be a big one. The north London club are back in European football and must contest the Europa League alongside the Premier League. This will be where we see what Postecoglou can bring to Tottenham.

The Premier League has been the sole focus so far this season, and it’s been a mixed start to the new campaign. Tottenham opened with a draw against newly-promoted Leicester, but got their first win of the season against Everton. But Tottenham were unable to build on that, losing 2-1 to Newcastle before suffering a 1-0 loss against arch-rivals Arsenal.

Brentford are in their fourth season as a Premier League side, but it was a rocky campaign last time out. Fresh off the back of a top-half finish, Brentford dropped to 16th last season, albeit 13 points clear of the relegation zone. Nonetheless, it was a disappointing season.

This season, however, has started well. Thomas Frank has been backed by the club and it is paying off. Brentford opened with a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace, who many had backed to do well this year. The Bees did then lose to Liverpool, but they bounced back to beat Southampton before suffering a 2-1 defeat against Man City.

Tottenham team news

Tottenham suffered injuries to Wilson Odobert and Timo Werner during their win at Coventry. Ange Postecoglou confirmed that Odobert’s injury looked “fairly significant” but was more positive about Werner’s fitness, suggesting it could have been a fatigue issue.

Richarlison is expected to miss out again, but Yves Bissouma is in contention after picking up a knock during the recent international break. There was also good news on Destiny Udogie, who was withdrawn at halftime against Coventry, but Postecoglou confirmed this was always the plan.

Brentford team news

Brentford will be without Yoane Wissa for at least two months after he was on the receiving end of a tough tackle from Mateo Kovačić against City. This is a major setback for the Bees and will likely see Kevin Schade replace him.

Tottenham vs Brentford head-to-head

Tottenham scored four points in their two games against Brentford in the Premier League last season. It came after just one point from a possible six the season prior. Overall, Tottenham have won 25 of their 48 games against Brentford, with just seven victories for the Bees.
