London rivals in two very different situations
Of course, both London sides have bigger rivals, but this remains a capital derby that covers both ends of the table. In the north of London, and the top half of the table, Tottenham are chasing a return to the top four. Ange Postecoglou’s side were once very comfortable in the top four before enduring a tough run that saw them fall away from the conversation.
That particular run saw Tottenham lost four out of five games, drawing the other, with all four defeats coming having taken the lead. But they turned things around to win four of their next five, only falling in a 4-2 defeat to Brighton. Since the end of 2023, things have been a bit inconsistent for Tottenham, though they were unbeaten in five. They traded wins with draws, but that run came to an end last time out, with Postecoglou’s side losing 2-1 to Wolves at home. They’ll be playing catchup for a bit now, having seen their game against Chelsea postponed.
For Crystal Palace, the Oliver Glasner era is underway and things are slightly more positive already. It’s been a tough season for Palace, who struggled for form under Roy Hodgson, who had worked so well to secure safety last season. The Eagles lost just under half of their Premier League matches under Hodgson, with only the bottom two sides having a worse goal difference than their -16.
Glasner was appointed on the day of Palace’s trip to Goodison Park, but the Eagles were led by Paddy McCarthy and Ray Lewington, securing a 1-1 draw to keep them five points clear of the relegation zone. He had the perfect opening game, with Burnley traveling to Selhurst Park, and Glasner oversaw a 3-0 win for the Eagles, lifting them up to 13th. Crucially, there are now eight points between them and the relegation zone, and Palace may rest a little easier.
Tottenham vs Crystal Palace match tip
Tottenham to win and BTTS @ 17/10 by BetVictor
Tottenham are favourites for this one, but that doesn’t mean it will be straightforward. Postecoglou’s side have actually been pretty leaky defensively this season, especially at home. In their 13 league games at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium so far, the Lilywhites have managed to keep just two clean sheets. While they have scored in all 13 matches, that means they have also conceded in 11, so expect goals.
Tottenham vs Crystal Palace odds
It’s no surprise to see Tottenham as the clear favourites for this one. Even if you throw home and away form out of the window, Tottenham are clearly having a better season than Crystal Palace. But then you consider the fact that Crystal Palace are winless in their past seven away games across all competitions, and Tottenham’s task looks easier.
