The likelihood is that at least one of these nations, or perhaps both, will have qualified by the time this match is played. With four points likely to be enough for qualification, as four points has been in each of the 24-nation European Championship finals so far, then Switzerland and Germany will feel confident to get those points from their fixtures against Hungary and Scotland.

However, that will not necessarily be the case, and, also, there is a clear difference in route to the final between top and second placed finishers in the group. Both nations will feel more confident about their chances of progression if they are able to top the group.

At the end, these fairly evenly matched teams could settle for a point that should see both get safe passage through to the knockout rounds.

Switzerland and Germany meet in the final round of fixtures on June 23 at the the Frankfurt Arena in Frankfurt at 8pm.

Switzerland finished second in their qualification group, somewhat surprisingly, to Romania. Nevertheless the Swiss are proving to be very consistent in qualifying for major tournaments having only missed Euro 2012 and 2002 World Cup finals in this century.

Germany, as hosts, didn’t have to qualify for these finals. They have prepared for them by taking part in a series of prestigious friendlies over the course of two years. The results and performances were poor at first, which caused teh change in management, with Julian Nagelsmann taking over in September 2023. Recent performances and results have been better, with recent wins over France and the Netherlands.

Switzerland Latest Team News

The Swiss team will all depend on the status of the qualification scenario of the third and final match. Whilst their squad isn’t as deep as many, there is more depth than there used to be in Swiss football, so many of the second choice XI could get a start here if qualification scenarios are favourable.

There is a lot of versatility in the Swiss forward line heading into the tournament. There are many players who can play in the front three, with Noah Okafor a potential starter here or perhaps Cedric Itten or Haris Seferovic.

There is still a strong chance that Switzerland will have to play a strong XI as well though.

Germany Latest Team News

Germany could use a heavily rotated XI for this match if results have gone their way in the previous two matches.

If this is the case then we might expect to see run outs for the likes of Niclas Fullkrug, the Dortmund centre forward, who is expected to play second fiddle to Kai Havertz at the beginning of the tournament.

The second choice goalkeeper could also play, potentially Manuel Neuer if Marc-Andre Ter Stegen keeps his place.

Indeed, there could be plenty of experience in the second string German side if Thomas Muller, Pascal Gross, Leroy Sane, and Nico Schlotterbeck don’t play in the first choice XI as expected.

Switzerland vs Germany Head to Head

Switzerland have now gone three games unbeaten against Germany, including an incredible 5-3 victory in 2012. Indeed, this game seems to bring the goals, with 26 goals across their last six encounters.
