Stuttgart vs Borussia Dortmund odds
We’re into the last 16 of the 2023/24 DFB-Pokal and it feels as though the race is wide open. Defending champions RB Leipzig have been knocked out, as have Bayern Munich, and Borussia Dortmund will be hoping to win the cup for the second time in four years. BVB are five-time winners of the DFB-Pokal, with only Werder Bremen (six) and Bayern Munich (20) winning the competition more. Three of Dortmund’s five wins have come in the past 11 years, beating RB Leipzig in the final in 2020/21.
Since then, Dortmund have been knocked out in the round of 16 and quarter-finals, last season beaten by RB Leipzig who got their revenge en route to winning the cup again. So far this season, Dortmund have beaten Schott Mainz 6-1 and Hoffenheim, the latter a narrow 1-0 victory thanks to Marco Reus’ first-half goal.
This is one of only two all-Bundesliga ties in the DFB-Pokal round of 16, but Stuttgart will fancy their chances of pushing on. Stuttgart are three-time winners of the DFB-Pokal but two of those wins came in the 1950s and the most recent in 1997, when they beat Energie Cottbus in the final. However, since that victory, Stuttgart have finished as runners-up in 2006/07 and 2012/13.
Last year, Stuttgart were semi-finalists, beaten by Eintracht Frankfurt despite taking a first-half lead. In the first round this year, Stuttgart cruised to a 4-0 victory over TSG Balingen, before knocking out fellow Bundesliga side Union Berlin last time out.

Nico Schlotterbeck had to come off injured in Dortmund’s draw with Bayer Leverkusen at the weekend and surely won’t be risked here. Marcel Lotka is also out, still suspended, while Julien Duranville and Felix Nmecha are injured. Niklas Sule and Ramy Bensebaini are doubts due to illness.
